Don't Give Up On Trent Green Too Fast!!!

One of the things that happened last season, was that we judged Culpepper too fast, because he struggled due to his knee injury, he played for 4 games and we never gave him another opportunity, now he is done for us.

Green might struggle at the beginning, at least against Washington by 2 reasons:

*Players Haven't Played Together - Green might now the system, but chemistry is a solid factor here.

*Washington Has A Great Secondary - They have a star secondary which will lead to many pass defended, some interceptions and not many pass attempts, the running game will be our strong hit.

So my point is, don't get down on Green and don't give him up because of the first game(s), we've got to give him a big opportunity to get this going and to mentor Beck, I'm saying this because we usually give up on our QB's for the first actions not giving them big opportunities.

GO PHINS!!!

couldnt agree any better....... I think green will be good for 2 more seasons, then BECK comes in and takes us far into the playoffs:D

I think four games was enough for Daunte, and it should be enough to judge Trent. As long as we are in the playoff hunt I think we should stick with Green.

Washington was last in the league last year with only 6 INT's all year long. Right behind the fins with 8.

No need to worry. Cam and Mueller will give Green every opportunity and then more to suceed. They will not be viewed as having made a mistake by trading such value and giving such a huge contract for a player on the downside. Everything will be sacraficed for Green. Their careers are riding on him.

Every QB that's been brought in has been given more than one game, with the possible exception of Lemon who seems destined for the bench after one start. Hell, a better argument could be made that we gave some QBs, like Fiedler, too many starts. Fiedler should never have been the starter for five years.

Culpepper was given four games, played pathetically, led the offense nowhere and was benched, supposedly because he was injured. What good would it have done to keep him in there? He showed nothing for one quarter of the season, and if he really was injured there was no point in leaving him in and risking further injury.

Nobody judged Culpepper after one game, though they probably should have given how he played at the end of the Steelers game. He was allowed to play poorly against three other teams before he was yanked.

If Green plays as poorly as Culpepper did for the first four games, I see no reason to stick with him blindly.

Thanks..., I think 4 games are not enough, at least not the FIRST 4 games, in that phase the playbook isn't fresh for most players (more even after coach changing), moreover if a player knows well a system, he might not have enough chemistry with the other players to make great plays, so I'd say that 4 games (the first 4 games) are definitely not enough for a new QB with new teammates and a new playbook

While agree we shouldn't throw Trent under the bus if he starts out slow, but by the time Washington comes, he should be pretty familiar with the players. Don't forget that he has all of TC and preseason games to get used to them.

It was obvious to a blind man that culpepper wasnt right after game 3 of last year. He should not have started until later in the year but hindsight is 20/20.
Green will be given probally half of this season to get things going. If he doesnt by then i would think cam will move in a different direction. At least if green isnt right he will still not hang on to the ball forever and turn it over so much. Our offense might not (although i have good feeling about this offense) move the ball forward as much as we like to start the year but hopefully it wont be going backwards like it seemed to for the first half of last year.

i don't expect much from green. As long as hedoesn't lose games for us. Our d will give the O opportunities just as long as Green doesn't return the favor. I don't expect him to have great numbers (first few games or not) I just hope he is consistently average.

I think 4 games will give you an accurate gauge on how quickly he is or isn't going to pick up on this system...that being said, with his familiarity with Cam and Cam's creativity, as long as the O-line gives him some time and starts playing as a unit by week 2 or 3, you'll see Trent do just fine...:)If they play like swiss cheese again, we'll be up poop creek w/out a paddle with whatever QB we put back there...I am predicting his numbers to be around 61% completion, 3,448 yds, 27td's / 13 int's ---I really see a big year for, gulp, Chambers...ok, start throwing stones....

Fiedler was the exception of the rule, see Huard, Lucas, Frerrote, Rosenfels, Culpepper, Griese, Lemon. I think its enough said with 10 QB's over 6 years including as you said Fiedler from 2000 - 2004 (5 years)

I'm not saying that you should stick with him blindly, I'm just saying the we shouldn't give him up too fast.
