Don't mean to be a downer but...

even tho i wanted an elite rusher, martin is a great pick. it sures up the swinging door at rt. and he is athletic for a 315 lber and he was in a wco

We were 30th in giving up sacks and 10th in getting them. Logic would say that we need a pass protector over a pass rusher.

Scheme doesnt cover up everything. Talent is required. Right now, our wideout's just aren't talented enough. We need someone who can break a game open or who can at least consistently score points.

The most famous WCO in the history of the league was the 49'ers. They had guy named Jerry Rice. Just because we changed "philosophies" doesnt mean we should just completely write off the position.
Just about all of history's most famous WCO's had a definitive number one receiver. It's funny that this myth has spread through our fanbase that the WCO exists in a bizarro world where receiving talent is a negative. I'm pretty sure our coaching staff doesn't believe that. Because they chose to cut ties with a lunatic in BMarsh doesn't mean they've completely devalued the position.

I just dont get how people want to write off gates or even bess. IF we had taken a WR in the 2nd round and it took him sime to develop, people would be calling for a WR next year because GOD KNOWS if he doesnt get the opportunity to play in his 1st 16 games he is a bust- especially if you play for the dolphins. If for some crazy reason gates/bess steps up, a lot of us will be lucky this thread will be long dead and buried.

Losing Mike Nolan and changing to a scheme that is different from what we spent 4 years building is only going help that sack ranking, right?

I mean, its logical to assume that nothing will change. Green Bay can vouch for that. Just ignore the fact that they went from one of the best teams at sacking the QB in 2010 to a completely average team at sacking the QB in 2011.

Well, its about time i go congratulate Jacksonville. I mean, they had a hole at punter, so it was logical to burn a third rounder on one.

One thing that got me thinking. I saw a comment by someone on this forum who wrote Hartline was no Jordy Nelson. But in my mind they are similar WRs. They have the height and weight measurements that are near equal. Then I saw Nelson's first three years of production and they mirrorred Harline's. Of course last year, Nelson's fourth, he was a beast. Perhaps the coaching staff believes that the same strides can be made by Hartline in his fourth year. We shall see.

So we should just assume that suddenly the light will go on for all of our players and we dont need more talent at that position? Which one of Gates's 2 catches impressed you the most?

Devone Bess is a good player. But he has been here for 4 years. Do tell, how many games has he taken over in that time span? Which teams feared him the most? How many defensive strategies involved shutting him down? How many double and triple coverages has he drawn?
The answer to all those questions is: very few to none.

I suppose i shouldnt be shocked that Dolphin fans are AGAINST adding talented playmakers to a impact position. Nevertheless, this board still finds a way to surprise me.

The gal was right tonight... It is about fitting your system.... The woman knows
You never let Stephen Hill go to the Jets.
You better spend time developing Tanny now. He has to start folks.

Ireland tried desperately to not only trade up in the 2nd round (to the first pick) but also trade to the bottom of the 2nd, top of the 3rd. He clearly saw value in a lot of places but didn't get a chance to grab it. That's fine. Rumor has it, there is still a lot of value left for Miami.

I think the Egnew trade down was a great move. They wanted someone desperately, and clearly he got taken between St Louis and #72, so they trade down and grabbed the next player on their board, picking up extra value. I expect them to turn that into a future pick sometime down the road. I see us grabbing a WR in the 4th and then some more depth at OLB.

HUGE fan of this draft so far. Great job. Then again, a lot of teams are having phenomenal drafts. Except Jacksonville, Cleveland, and NE outside of the 1st round

...I am really disappointed with the picks tonight. I was all for Tannehill yesterday. But going into tonight and seeing how things were working out, I was really hoping we'd pick between Stephen Hill, Lavonte David, Reuben Randle, or Vinny Curry in RD2. Then in the 3rd round, I wanted Mohamed Sanu, Ronnell Lewis, Sean Spence, Markelle Martin, or Brandon Boykin. Instead, we get a soft OT, project DE, and one-dimensional TE. I hope I'm wrong on these guys, but I'm not feeling too good about the draft right now.
It's not about what you want!!! The F/O makes the picks and clearly they wanted these players. Don't fall into the trap of thinking you know better than they do. We all have opinions, but if you think you know better than they do, think again. we can agree to disagree, that is what makes draft days so much fun.
