Donte Stallworth interested in Miami

Do you see how much cap space SF has? They're going to give him #1 WR type money, and he's a #2.

I am only concern about DS about how healthy he can remain. I dont mind paying the money,
as long as he remains healthy.

Semantics. I said it was a RUMOR in the title.
I agree it might be a little misleading. But we all know free agency has not started, so it is not that we all thought the team contacted DS's agent. Plus, we all love and live for these rumors. That is the main reason many of us join this site. Thanks for the read, and for the argument.

Technically Donte Stallworth isn't eligible to seek offers until free agency begins. Nonetheless in various media interviews he indicated there was interest from the 49ers, Dolphins, Patriots and Buccaneers in addition to the Eagles. The Niners are said to have the most interest in Stallworth, with the Vikings and the Packers lesser suitors.

There's a reason the Saints gave up on him.

Actually there's several reasons the Saints "gave up" on Stallworth -

1. Stallworth says all the right things to the press then something entirely different when he thinks the mikes are off. When he was with the Saints he said things like "he wanted to stay with the team, retire a Saint, loved N.O. and the fans, etc." But his friends and family told the press outside N.O. that "he wants to test the FA market". Turns out his friends and family were right.

2. In hindsight trading him turned out to be a brillant move. He would've walked away from the Saints for nothing....so the trade turned out to be brillant for the Saints. The Eagles rented him for the year, the Saints got their starting MLB (Simoneau) and fourth round pick.

3. Sean Payton demands consistency out of his receivers not just big play
ability. As many big highlight reel plays Stallworth he makes an equal number of drive killing drops. You never see those drops on ESPN.....

4. The emergence of Marques Colston. As Saints mini camps progressed Colston climbed the Saints roster. By the final mini camp the 7th rounder was competing neck and neck with the former 1st rounder. Credit Payton for having the stones to start a 7th over a first rounder.

5. Stallworth wants a top receiver's contract. He did with the Saints, he did with the Eagles, that hasn't changed as FA approaches. Ask yourself this - if Stallworth really wants to stay with the Eagles all he would have to do is lower his asking price slightly (or is it just lip service?). Someone is going to overpay for him do you want it to be the Dolphins?

Don't get me wrong Stallworth isn't a "bad guy" in the TO mold. He is over rated but a decent player when healthy.....

San Fran also has gone through a new FO philosophy, they're not going to overpay for big names. They've got their targets (ie Adalius Thomas) but Nolan has only given one big contract, to Jonas Jennings. I highly doubt Nolan will want to give huge money to Stallworth when he'' get his choice of Jarrett,Meachum,Ginn,Rice, and Bowe in the draft.

Line Stallworth and Booker on the outside, Chambers in the slot, that would be something to see.

or hagan instead of booker. id be down for that. runs greate routes and has solid speed.

So if he's good for 5 games a year and chambers is good for 5 games a year than we just have to hope that it's different games.

there's no way we could afford both of these guys on our roster though. Donte is the #1 WR FA right now... we won't have that much coin to pay for him, there will be another team somewhere willing to pay (see: Redskins, Falcons, San Diego, etc...)

Look for the Skins to grab him, since they seem to sign every player anyway.:shakeno:

yep. they are notorious for overspending... even on positions they don't need. Even recently (see: Patten, Lloyd, etc...)

Let the count of FA's start for this season.

The guy who handles there cap space is great, we need him.

EDIT: They probably over paid for him too.
