"Former UCLA coach Karl Dorrell is expected to be named the team's wide receivers coach at some point this week, as Dorrell is believed to have chosen Miami over Kansas City.

Dorrell, who coached the wide receivers in Denver before jumping back to the college ranks, recently was fired by UCLA. If indeed he chooses Miami, the team is considering hiring former NFL head coach Dan Henning to serve as the offensive coordinator.

The mind-set would be to groom Dorrell as Henning's successor to run the offense -- a transition that would likely be a rapid one."

Personally, I like Dorrell

...I think he has a good mind and it just didn't work out at UCLA...He was an up and comer a year ago.

Henning is 65 and Dorrell is 44. It all makes sense that they would groom Dorrell for the job in the near future as Henning is getting long in the tooth.

:woot:

Being a UCLA fan im glad he's coming to Miami as WR coach.
Little skeptic if he ends up being OC.

It seems like the main complaint about him was from a X's and O's stand point. If he's being groomed by Henning, and Sparano by extension, one would think he would gain a bit of that.

While I didn't watch much of UCLA I don't remember his players ever giving up on him and I thought I remember them being well disciplined. That's usually the part you can't teach, so it's a good foundation.

His X's and O's sucked and he learned from Shannahan. It was very predictable. 1st down run 2nd down run 3rd down pass 4th down punt. From what i read not sure How much control he had at actual calling the plays but in the end it always falls on the HC.

He brought in good character kids and cleaned up the program. The players were 100% behind him and Hes a great person but he was over his head as a 1st time HC.

Like i said as a WRs coach i pretty positive he'll do a good job but as OC im not sure. But i'll worry about that when and IF the time comes.

this move would ease my worries about hiring henning. I want young coaches to go along with our youth movement personnel wise. I believe young players respond better to young coaches. When I heard we were hiring henning (an older oc) I was puzzled. But if we are bringing in a guy we plan on grooming it makes sense.

i love this guy..i loved when he beat usc two seasons ago after the game he said he gave pete carroll what he wanted, going to the rose bowl....lol the week before there game carroll said he didnt mind not playing in the nat champ game and would welcome the rose bowl..well he got what he wished for, great quote..and love the move that it seems like he was promised oc job in like 2 to 3 years...love it..henning is better decision then palmer imho

for once we also look towards the future with our coaching staff. I love the fact that we are now gooming replacements. When Linehan left a couple years ago I wished we would have had someone else in-house under Linehan to take over, but then in came Mularkey and the rest is as they say history

Yep....this is standard Parcells.....prepare for today and plan for tomorrow. Look at his other stops. NY times 2, NE, and Dallas were all set up for long term success. It's great to have the Big Tuna as a Dolphin.

And I love the fact he's hiring tough, hard nosed coaches. No more pandering to cream puff players. You'll either produce now or be gone.

Feeling good after 1-15. Who would have thunk it????
