I know, I know....we played a tougher schedule and we had injuries. Well lets look beyond that and really examine this.

Did we really improve from last season?

Last years team was able to go on a run down the stretch. And while yes they did play weak opponents for the most part, I dont call Buffalo, Tennessee, and Houston powerhouses by any means.

Be realistic. Last years team had their backs against the wall the whole way down the stretch. They, like this years team, played the tougher part of the schedule in the first half of the season.

The difference was last years team took care of business. They went on the road and beat Buffalo. This team didnt.

They beat an upstart 9ers team that had gotten hot at that point of the year. This team lost to the Titans who were playing similar to that 9ers team last year.

Last years team went on the road and knocked out a 9-6(at the time) Jets team to cap things off. This years team lost to a mediocre Houston team at home with it all on the line.

So you can say what you want about the schedule being tougher. I call it a chicken **** excuse. Its ****ing weak.

Reality is, that IF the team improves from last season, you would expect it to post about the same number of wins or at least close to it DESPITE the tougher schedule. After all, if they really get better, they should be able to beat teams that are a little better and therefore post 10 wins or so.

Last years team played with heart and got the job done when it counted. Last year it took all 11 wins to get in. Hell, the Patsies didnt get in with 11. This year there will be two 9 win teams get in. Perhaps 1 nine win team and one 8 win team. No excuse for not making the playoffs if the team really got better.

Lets examine what we really did roster wise.

The defense didnt get any better. Look. What did we really do?

Well we drafted 2 corners. Problem is we failed to resign Goodman. That dude straight up balled down the stretch. Pay him his ****ing money you cheap *******s.

So while we got younger, we didnt get better at all really in the secondary. We also let Hill walk and got Wilson. You call that an upgrade????

Those 4 starters from last years secondary played much better down the stretch after a little time together. We shouldve kept all 4 of those guys. Then you still draft a young player. Sure. Davis is fine. He couldve been eased in with Goodman around and then stepped in when Allen got injured. With Goodman around, we couldve spent that 2nd round pick on another area besides having to take Smith. All we had to do was step up and pay the guy the money he earned.

At the LB spot, we added JT and pretty much swapped out Roth with Wake. Not a big deal really. We pretty much stayed the same.

The DL we did NOTHING really. Changed some depth. We needed to address Ferguson. We shouldve been prepared for his injury. If we get a young guy this year, its one year too late.

So when you look at that, what did we really do that made the defense better? Nothing. We made it worse. Those 2 key injuries and we were worse than last year on D. All because we sucked in FA and because of that had to spend a pick to address a spot we couldve easily done by paying a guy we already had who wanted to stay.

Offensively, aside from adding Hartline, we did NOTHING. We swapped Satele for Grove, which is an upgrade, but dude has been injured. Basically we put in Berger. Henne and Pennington while 2 different players are a wash. Pennington is good to have vs. ****ty teams because he wont turn it over. But, vs. good teams we need Henne's ability to make a big play.

We did NOTHING to upgrade the offense. Basically last years was just as good.

We wasted a 2nd rounder on a total bust in Pat White. Thats it. We got a good break in a 4th rounder on Hartline.

You think that was a good offseason for the FO???? I dont. But, keep drinking the kool aid.

Reality is this team right now if it finishes 7-9 is one win better than when Saban left in his 2nd year. His first year we finished winning 6 straight with a vet QB in Ferrotte. Pretty similar to Parcells and Co.'s first season only we won 11 last year and 9 in Saban's first year. We did play a tougher schedule for sure though in Sabans first year as opposed to last year.

Say what you want but this regimes not done much more than what went on pre Scameron. We took a step back this season as well. We had a terrible offseason and didnt address the areas we needed to.

And now with us losing to bad and mediocre teams down the stretch when other teams keep giving us opportunities to take a playoff spot, it looks as though we have gotten worse from last season. But, some of you act like its a lock that these clowns will make great moves this offseason.

I think to an extent that henne was playing in penningtons offense this year. Didn't really play into hennes strengths, ie 20 yd come backs, outs and ins. Kid clearly has a mega-cannon and hopefully we develop the offense to utilize it in 2010.

Speaking of great moves....they were also able to steal Pat White in the 2nd round...

That's ridiculous. The running game is 10 times better. The O-line is a top 5 unit with depth compared to last year. QB with rocket arm. More WR's to make plays (still need #1). Better D-line. Better corners. This team is far better than the 2008 team.

Said it before, I'll say it again...

This team would beat the hell out of that overrated 11 - 5 team from last season.

this team looks horrible & has so many holes.....they still look like they are 3 years away from being anything

How would Massaquoi sp? look in a Phins uniform instead of that midget qb we wasted a 2nd rounder on? Ill never understand that pick.

The OL is virtually the same except for the C position. They upgraded to Grove from Satele. But, Grove has missed a lot. Its basically the same. They are good though.

QB with rocket arm.

Definately. But, like I said, Henne is better in some areas and Pennington is better than others. Against bad teams, Id rather have Pennington. But, if Im playing a good team Henne has to be in there. Pennington limits the offense so much. Thats why I called it a wash. Id rather have Henne overall though.

More WR's to make plays (still need #1).

More receivers? We added Hartline. Thats it. Im still waiting for you to give me how this team is so much better. You could argue they are slightly better on offense.

Better D-line.

Like the OL, its virtually the same. Only Ferguson got injured. All they did was tinker with the depth. It wouldve been wise to have a young guy being groomed and ready to step in should Ferguson get injured at his age. It wouldve been wise to have a kid give him a breather a little more this year. This was an area that shouldve been higher up in the priorities. Again, if Pat White wasnt such a concern and we had resigned Goodman, thats 2 2nd round picks we couldve spent elsewhere.

Better corners.

While the young guys have some talent, they certainly dont seem better than how our guys played down the stretch last season. Give me Goodman and a different draft pick over Smith anyday. Not that I hate Smith or anything, its just that it seems it wouldve been wise to spend that pick elsewhere and fill that spot with someone you already know can do the job and who was available and willing to sign.

This team is far better than the 2008 team

I dont see how you get that. Probably be 7-9 as opposed to a team that won 11 games. And sure, the schedule was tougher, but we have been losing to teams that last years team clearly demonstrated they were capable of beating and did so.

Our last 3 losses were to teams that I would consider mediocre at best. Buffalo is BAD. Last years team only lost 5 games total, much less lose to 3 teams of that caliber.

Clean your loupe and put the kool aid down.

I gave the new FO a one year pass and that lasted until last offseason. Last offseason was garbage for Jeff Ireland. During the draft all I could say to myself was WTF as corners and receivers kept getting taken by Ireland when we still had glaring problems in the front 7. The luxury pick of White was the capper.

This team has holes all over the place and the OP hit it right on the head - we are no better this year than last. The rah rah of Sparano accounted for some wins last year - the motivation, the fire, the new attitude. But all that wears off unless some sustained success comes with it. Today showed the team as not ready, not up for a HUGE game. This is a horrible reflection on Sparano.

Screw the tough schedule, screw the injuries and excuses. This team is facing multiple holes and needs a ton of answers this offseason. The playoffs last year may have been a curse in retrospect. All the ugly wins last year, the end of season run, the playoff game - all of it led to a piss poor offseason and draft. I don't get it.

What position unit can we sit here today and say is better than one year ago today? The answer is NONE of them, except MAYBE the OL. Not good Fins fans.

Ireland get to work and get this crap fixed.

I thought that too until the last couple of weeks. No way last years team folds up like this one has. No ****ing way. That team had guts and did the job vs. mediocre and bad teams week after week in December with the playoffs on the line.

I let them pass on the Buffalo one, but losing two weeks in a row now with everything breaking their way with the rest of the teams, just dosent suggest they are better than last years team.

Its not like we lost to great teams either. San Diego went into Tennessee and showed us how it was done. That was a very conVINCEing win traveling from West to East on a short week and a Holiday.

The 2008 team would have had 4 wins this season.

Comedy. Pure comedy. WE are THAT much better than last year?

Last year we didn't turn the ball over, didn't have so many negative plays, tackled better, managed games and won in the 4th quarter. This years' version is flaming out all over the place. Complete lack of consistency and heart.

The 2008 team was a better football team. It is obvious.

No, this team wouldn't beat the hell out of them. Why you ask? The 2008 team didn't turn the ball over like this one does, and Pennington would pick apart our current pathetic Defense with it's horrible secondary and inconsistent pass rush. Aside from that playoff loss, we were surprisingly solid considering many of the players and coaches were new to the team. To call them overrated just shows your lack of appreciation for a team that surprised all of us and the League.

Anyways...if turnovers aren't greatly reduced on Offense and generated on Defense, the personnel changes next season won't matter much.

The 2008 team would have had 4 wins this season.

:rolleyes2:

Tell me who wouldve beaten them?

I can name a few games last years team wouldve won that this years team didnt.

Can you name some games that we did win this year that last years team wouldnt have?

I feel like our offense has improved. We have put up decent yards even after Ronnie and Cobbs went down. The OL is playing much better in run blocking this year. Our defense has definitely regressed, particularly the secondary and pass rush.
