How would you feel if Miami doubled down in the first and second round?

For example:
Round 1: Myles Jack, UCLA (or Reggie Ragland, Alabama)
Round 2: Kentrell Brothers, Missouri

Two linebackers that would most likely come in and start right away

Round 1: Vernon Hargreaves, UF (or Mackensie Alexander, Clemson)
Round 2: Kendall Fuller, VT

Two corners that would likely start right away

It offers its benefits and fallbacks. You would get two talented, NFL ready players at one position of need, but would likely need to fill the other with some short-term free agent finds. Thoughts?

If we were able to successfully shore up most of our MANY positions of need in FA I'd be for it. Though I'd rather try to get 2 starters at 2 different positions in the first 2 rounds and then use later picks to hedge our bets at the same position. This offseason I doubt we'll be able to address all of our needs regardless, but if we could shore up any 3 areas of weakness I feel it would take the burden off some of the other areas.

I'm okay with either strategy, as well as, Jack/Fuller or Hargreaves/Brothers.

I think this draft needs to be heavily slanted toward to the defense particularly with the top picks.

Not 1...2, but double down on a position in their 1st 3 picks, I would be more then OK with. As long as we come out with one LB and one Corner with the 1st and 2nd, I don't care which direction they go with in the 3rd.

Best player available so long as it makes logical sense.

That said, if i were given a choice, i'd be against doubling down like you describe. Our entire defense needs to be rebuilt from top to bottom. We just aren't one position group away from winning. Linebackers and corners in general develop far quicker than defensive ends, so if we had to hastily throw resources at one group next offseason then it wouldn't be as big of a crime.

The bold is interesting. The more i mull this offseason over the more im convinced we could fix our linebacker unit in the short term. On top of being a deep draft at that spot, there are at least 3 veteran players who might be cut and 2 "younger" players who might not be in their teams future. Paul Posluszny, Lawrence Timmons, and Derrick Johnson could be salary casualties, and Daryl Washington has been more or less replaced in Arizona. I'd also kick the tires on Wesley Woodyard now that Whisenhunt and Horton are gone. None of these players would fix our defense, but they could contribute right away.

I'm definitely not opposed to it at all. But I wouldn't mind almost waiting till round 3 for one spot, just depends how the chips fall

This. Too many holes to fill to make 1st 2 picks in a draft about same position.

This is something that could happen naturally with a 'BPA' approach. If the BPA in the 1st round is LB, you take him. If the BPA at our 2nd-round slot is an LB, you take him too. If the player of another position is like 98% as good as the BPA linbebacker, maybe you take the other position guy.
This stuff is pretty self-explanatory.

Kendall and Vernon would be a ****ing pipedream. Both will be beasts

I would rather do something like sign Sean Smith then draft William Jackson in the 2nd...gives us two big cbs.

Then I would take Myles Jack in the first..so we kind of have a nicer looking defense already.

I would also keep Vernon and Wake so that we can put off the DE panic for a few rounds.

As long as they can come in and start Im all for it. we had success with that in past years. Webb-Sims, Giesler-Toews and some failure Milner-Greene

I would love to get Sean back, but he will not be cheap, and our 1st priority in FA has to be the O-line, which again, will not be cheap....unless Miami wants to yet again go the bargain basement route with the Guard position and see how much longer Tannehill's limbs continue to be intact.

Hopefully we have a true offensive minded HC this time that knows the O-line needs to be fixed.

So this is actually a question I've been hoping would come up but in our front office because in my opinion this is exactly what we need to do. What do these 2 super bowl teams have? Good secondary play allowing the d-line and backers time to do what they do. I'm sure alot of you if not all of you saw that denver game. Brady didn't have guys to throw to. I would say 75-80% of those sacks were coverage sacks.

Grimes is the only decent corner we have and he did not play well this past year. His time is done in my opinion. The only defensive back we have that is worth a crap is Jones. We need 2 shut down corners. Like when we had Surtain and Madison. I'd love hargreaves and best corner available in the 2nd

Bro you also have Tony Lippett at CB who is 6"3" and 200 lbs who just finished his rookie year.
