Dr Z's Hall of Fame List

I don't think I've ever seen a bigger waste of a sports writers time. I know that he has a vote and all, but why bother talking about guys like Gates when they've barely started their careers. And Pennington? Hall of Fame? Why?

I submit Peter King's writing about his daughter's softball team, Starbucks, travel irritations, etc. as bigger wastes of a sportswriter's time.

dont forget peter king's absolute and complete butt kissing of mike holmgren and bill belichek...but yes, if you want a good waste of time read the monday morning quarterback...wait scratch that...read anything written by peter king...

OK, I'll agree that there are definately bigger wastes of time. I guess I always forget about King since I pretty much gave up reading him a long time ago.

Yeah, Jason and Zach stand as good a chance as some of the guys he listed. If both continue to play at a high level for a few more seasons, I think they'll both deserve some serious consideration.

Gotta love Shula giving him the business for two years after that.

I used to be a SI subscriber and use to chuckle reading Zimmerman's NFL season predictions...they always turned out to be spectacularly WRONG....Zimm has about the same NFL expertise as Sean Salisbury Steak.....which isnt much.

I appreciate Zim's writing. It's the best thing on SI's site, in my humble opinion. He isn't always right, but who is? There's a humble honesty in his writing that is sorely missing in the many younger sportswriters. He loves the game, pure and simple, and I sense his appreciation for players that share that feeling.

W/ guys like Chad and gates he is projecting down the road.
Chad Pennington is definitely the difference between a win or loss for the Jets but he hasn't even played a full season and doesn't put up incredible numbers when he does play. He's a good quarterback, one you strategize for and all but he's very, very far from a HOF ballot. I think you could say the same for Brady, though he gets the benefit of one of the best coaches and teams in recent history.
Antonio Gates is a joke on that list. He's had one good season, he caught a lot of TD's but that had more to do with the lack of decent receivers for San Diego. How is Tony Gonzalez not mentioned but Gates is? Gonzalez has proven year after year that he's the best tight end in the league, just because Kansas City's offense is more spread out doesn't mean Gates is better.
A lot of the people he mentions have had one strong year and a few decent years, he really doesn't look at the overall picture.

I know Chad does not belong in any HOF discussion.
