Draft a CB in the 1st!

Alright, unless something crazy happens where one of the unexpected talents fall to Miami such as Johnson, Thomas.... Miami needs to draft Leon Hall with the 9th pick. Face it, Travis Daniels and Will Allen aren't true #1 corners... Both play well but their nothing like a Champ Bailey or Deangelo Hall. Leon Hall has all of the abilities to be a pro bowl corner. Adding Hall to Daniels and Allen would be perfect. If Hall is already off the board, we still could consider Houston, but I think 9 might be a bit of a reach.
 
I wouldn't draft a corner in round 1 as it's one of the deepest positions in the draft. Hall, although very good, doesn't strike me as head and shoulders above two or three other guys. Good DB help can be had in the second round, so I would concentrate on whomever is the best player available, regardless of position at nine. Landry, Okoye (not a Branch fan), and Willis strike me as the best at their positions and I would take any of them ahead of Hall. Just my two cents.

Agreed, there is no Terrence Newman or DeAngelo Hall in here to draft (I don't count the 3 guys from the 2005 draft, because I thought there was a need for CB's in that draft, and the talent up top wasn't near as deep as this years up top).

I think the top 3 guys are above the pack, but not by a ton. I like Houston and REvis, but not at 9 . . . Hall just doesn't do it for me. We will draft a CB, but not in round 1.
 
I think I would rather see them try to package a couple picks to maybe trade up into the bottom part of round 1 for someone like Chris Houston or even Aaron Ross.
 
Yeah, no way we should take a corner at number 9...I wouldn't mind if we traded down and grabbed one though. Anyways, Chris Houston>Leon Hall imo, he's the guy I'd go with if we trade down.
 
No way I would draft defense with our first pick. Our defense is set, our offense has been sooooo pathetic. Lets upgrade it with playmakers please. Our defense has been our strong point since marino left, go figure. Every year it seems our offense gets worse. Time to add playmakers to that side of the ball guys.
 
While I agree with your logic regarding the position and needs, I think claiming Leon Hall is a pro bowl corner is a huge stretch. Hall will be a decent #2 or possibly #1 corner in the league, but there is nothing to suggest he will be a true shutdown guy.

Revis is a slightly less safe pick, but with greater risk comes the possibility of greater reward. He could develop into a great corner at the next level and would be a much better pick than Hall.

Couldn't disagree more. The difference between the guys projected round 1 and the guys projected round two is like night and day.

The thread is about obtaining an elite corner not just finding someone who is decent.

The thing is when defense's get as good as ours is, their effectiveness can improve geometrically. Hence the term coverage sack, but there many other smaller less evident forms and manifestations of one player or position or set of positions like secondary affecting other areas of the feild.

An elite corner making plays on the ball is what our defense is missing. With that huge hole filled our defense could go from being a good defense to being a dominant, even "high scoring" defense; and that means PLAYOFFS.

If we could trade down and pick up Chris Houston,Aaron Ross, or Reevis it would make the difference in next years season.

With a CB who can make some interceptions and a couple extra picks to enhance the OL we could still compete with the Pats even after their great offseason.
 
Revis has been slowly climbing up the boards. I know that the Steelers have been showing interest in him.

Here we'll have to agree to disagree. Hall is not elite by any means and there are 5 or 6 guys in the same league as Hall in this draft. One will fall to 40 if we choose to take a CB.

Totally agree here that we need a playmaker. I've wanted Landry knowing Quinn won't likely be there. A ball hawking safety like Polamanu, Ed Reed, Bob Sanders, etc can make a huge difference in the pass and run defense. Now that Atlanta picks ahead of us that's also unlikely.

I can live with this scenario because that means we've obtained another pick and gained more value from the number 9 slot.
 
Laron Landry is the only d-back worth the 9th pick.

Totally agree here that we need a playmaker. I've wanted Landry knowing Quinn won't likely be there. A ball hawking safety like Polamanu, Ed Reed, Bob Sanders, etc can make a huge difference in the pass and run defense. Now that Atlanta picks ahead of us that's also unlikely.

I didn't mention Hall.

I don't like Wright at all.

The only second round guy I think might be NFL ready this year is Jonathan Wade. Trackstar speed and 4 int's last year gives him a good start on things.
Only thing is he is flying up the charts and may not even be there at 40, let alone 60.

The other secondary guy I like is S Michael Griffin. 124 tackles last year is nuts.
Thats in 13 games. That's Zachish!
