Does anyone think holding the draft before free agency would be a good idea? Would it allow teams to select the best player regardless of need more often? How would it affect older player retension?

Either way there are potential issues. If you had the draft first could you imagine to issues that would be created if say you assumed Lamar Miller was going to re-sign and you didn't draft a back and then lost Miller in free agency. If you struck out on a player you wanted to sign or re-sign it would have a devastating impact on your roster.

It would be best for the NFL's veteran players to have free agency before the draft. Also allows teams to put less stock into young players early on.

I hate going into the draft trying to fill a starter spot that wasn't taken care of in free agency.

It helps drive money for free agents to have free agency before the draft. They do it that way for a reason
