I think Jimmy Johnson was the first guy to develop the Draft Points chart for trading purposes.
It makes sense but I always found it amusing that people jumped on his trade chart like it was Gospel.
It was and is a very good tool to quantify the "value" of draft picks but his numbers were his own and had no literal value.
Each team has to come up with their own value system when weighing draft pick trades, not everyone is going to agree on what it should cost to move up 15 spots in Round 3 and there is no literal correct answer.
