I just heard two guys on NFL network opine that the two most nfl-ready players from the senior bowl are Levi Brown OT and Ryan Kalil C. What do you think about copying what the jets did last year (Ferguson and Mangold) by drafting these two guys? (Hopefully Kalil will be there in the second round). Similar situations: The Jets wanted to help protect their QB who was coming back from an injury; we want to protect Culpepper. I recall that when the Vikings drafted McKinnie, Culpepper improved significantly. We can then move Hadnot back to right guard. The question remains, though, what do we do with Alabi if he indeed (as that liar Saban has suggested) is a "rising star."

By the way what the **** is wrong with this forum? I had to retype this whole message (my first copy was much better) because when I went to submit it originally, I was told I had to choose an icon. WTF???? I then went back but lost my message!

The way Kalil is moving up on a lot of the "experts" charts, it would be a steal for us to get him in the 2nd.

One star? What the....?

He could still be there in the early second some say. I think it quite likely he'd last into the early second. Centers are not usually picked up in the first round. Stephenson was a 2nd rounder, Stepnoski was a third.

I dunno. I got one star because He hate me.

Yes but Mangold was a 1st rounder last year.

Levi and kalil have both improved their stocks this week greatly. But i think we'd still be reaching on Levi Brown, and kalil wont be there in the 2nd.

Ok. Try to move down in the first to get Brown. Then move up to grab Kalil. Easier said than done, but not impossible. After all, this is all fantasy anyway with only a tantalyzing hint of reality.

 ok. im not ruling out Levi with the #9 pick. If he proves hes worth it, thats great. I dont see Kalil happening anymore though. Dont worry, somebody like Meachem in the 2nd would be wonderful.

I like the idea of getting one of them, more likely Brown but to get two Olinemen in back to back picks could be an issue. I like your points about the Jets and Penningtons injury similar to Cpep. A center with a 2nd round pick though...Rex Hadnot is improving and will hopefully continue to improve.

Ya Brown in the 1st could be a reach but I think it could be our best pick. If we were to take him in the 1st, I'd think the Fins would go defense in the 2nd as there are a good number of DBs that may fall into the 2nd round. 3rd round we could get a guy like Johnnie Lee Higgins to give us speed and spread the offense.

I agree that Brown would be an excellent pick for us. He may be a reach, but if we can't guarantee trading our pick down (even if that's possible) and still getting him then I think we almost have no choice but to draft Brown. Unless we want to go for a DL like Branch, or Okoye (though I'm not sure Branch would still be around, or if Okoye is worth a 9th overall pick. The way I would go on Day one is:

1st OL-Levi Brown
2nd WR-Robert Meachem or CB-Marcus McCauley
3rd C-Kyle Young

Thoughts?

Yes but Mangold was a 1st rounder last year.

Mangold was the exception...and even he was the last pick in the 1st round anyway...so by enlarge, C's start getting picked in the early 2nd round.

But if Kalil is there at #39...we got to grab him. Same thing with Staley...who most likely goes to OAK at the top of the 2nd round.

Yeah, it happened to me, too. I'm in the draft forum and I have to click on a draft icon, go figure. Lost my post, too. If Brown really is that good, I'm ok with it. I'd love to get a receiver in rounds 1/2 though.

There was this one team that took Webb OT and Sims OG in the same draft...turned out pretty well.

Levi Brown for sure. We have needed a LT since Richmond Webb. Joe Staley would be my next possibility as it pertains to us being able to get them at certain spots (2-3rd round?)

We get a guy like Dielman at LG then we are pretty much set for starters right there.

In the VIP section it was mentioned that Todd McShay on ESPN said that Levi Brown was overrated -- not worthy of a top ten pick.
