Surprised/Disappointed we passed on Doug Free in Round 4. We picked a DE instead. With M. Roth, J. Taylor, and R. Wright.... this was not a position of need... now we have a 4th DE to replace David Bowens.
**********
6th and 7th rounds.
Punter - needed.
G/C - position of need.
FB - Is this guy really 350 lbs? I've never heard of a 350 lb FB. Is he going to be switched to a new position?
LB - we've got 4 good ones, with Maxwell and Pope as adequate backups. Too many needs to make this pick.
DT - with Traylor, Holliday, Manny Wright, Fred Evans, etc... this looks like a wasted pick.

Comments:
Safety was the glaring position of weakness on the defense. None were taken. This is disappointing.

Passing on Doug Free was disappointing as well.

I'm not real happy with Day 2. (I was happy with Day 1, though).

The Only Pick that I really liked on Day 2

was the BIG NT Soliai to replace BIG Keith Traylor when

he decides to retire.

The FB We Picked up Is in the 270Lb Range, and, Considering Our Current Fullback is in his 13th year, its a good choice. I'm Still Going to Give CamRan the benefit of the doubt here. They picked up TWO versitle OLineman and A Guy That Just MigHt Wind Up being a Good Edge Rusher. I think WE ALL need to Let this play out, Afterall All, How Many Bonafide Scouts are on Finheaven? That would be ZERO. <No Disrespect to Boomer Or CK, Who Do their Homework, But arent Scouts, to my Knowledge>

On Day 1 I think I read that Satele and Beck are mormons. Today we draft a guy named Mormino, and another guy from Utah. Unusual Trend.

Two of the scariest things - no DBs or TEs picked. We must be waiting for June 1 cuts.

Well at least the mormons won't get arrested for anything or fail any drug tests.

THe DT was a needed pick the Fins won't be held hostage to any players now, look at the rb situation, they added 2 in spite of Ricky, thay added a FB inspite of Cory and they add a DT in spite of Manny Wight... :)

I was just going to comment on TE. With Jason Allen moving to Corner... I'm not surprised we didn't draft a corner. However, that means we are a Safety short. (Travares Tillman is are only backup)(and I don't think he's very good).
********
I wanted a trade down in Round 1 to pick up Ginn or Olson or Staley around 19. Oh well.

I'm happy with Ginn/Beck on Day 1... but we probably could have picked up another pick.

Another odd trend is that I believe we picked three Samoans. I think this is the first year any team has outdone San Diego in the number of Samoans drafted. Given where Cam hails from, maybe it isn't so odd.

In response to various comments on this thread:

* Satele is Polynesian, not Samoan.

* Mauia came over to the mainland to work out for the Dolphins. His weight is about 270 lbs. He will play fullback for us and become the understudy to Cory Schlesinger, who is done after this season.

* At tight end, David Martin and Justin Peelle are guaranteed to make the team, while we have brought back Jason Rader and Tim Massaquoi to compete for the third spot.

* Shirdonya Mitchell is playing safety in NFL Europa. If he can stay healthy, perhaps he becomes the fifth safety.

* Soliai was drafted as a message to Manatee Wright that he is just about out of chances with the Dolphins. Plus Keith Traylor has one year left -- let Soliai redshirt this year and then have him compete against Fred Evans in 2008.

The 4th round pick was not a DE, he was a 334 lb NT. We have no true NT behind Traylor.
We also got a mammoth 270 FB who had 10 catches last year and was a former 350 lb DT. Can you say pancake?
We also got another well-regarded G-C who gives us versatility & depth on the OL.
The 7th rounders are basically ST guys, and the punter has a career avg around 45 yards. Can't expect much else there.

He's a NT not a DE, and he could be our NT when Traylor retires
