I've seen a lot of mocks with us having an extra 2nd or 3rd round pick. I'm not in favor of dealing Ronnie but that's not the trade I'm concerned with in this thread. A lot of people have us trading back in the first round and getting a 2nd rounder. My question is who wants the 12th pick enough to give up a 2nd and how far should we be willing to move back?

Best guess Green Bay moving up from #23 to draft LT Bryan Bulaga and protect Aaron Rodgers for a change. #23 and an extra 2nd would suit me fine.

Only trade back if Dez Bryant is not available. This is all predicting that Suh, Berry and guys like that are drafted in their rightful slots. Mc Clain is good but i rather trade back and acquire more picks. What i mean to say is Mclain is not "Special"good. The money we would spend on him picking him 12 i would rather spend on ILB from Arizona. Name escapes me right now.

Karlos Dansby

And I think our LB needs are such that we should sign 2 veteran UFA LBs.

I would like to see us sign...

Karlos Dansby age 29 3-4 ILB
Scott Fujita age 30 SLB who I think could play 3-4 ILB or SOLB

This would free us up to fill other holes in the draft.

Probably Karlos Dansby. I agree on Bryant- I think that it's the best choice if he's there. Same old story on my end- take the impact player with the 1st pick, not the MLB. Use FA to fill ILB or look at Sean Lee in the 3rd. If by any chance Jermain Gresham lasts until our 2nd rd pick I'd seriously consider taking him there. Then 3rd rd and onward go heavy D, free agency, too. We need playmakers on both sides of the ball, easier to pick and choose for defense in free agency imo instead of forcing high picks there. Trade down from #12 suits me fine if Dez Bryant is gone.

I like that idea if Dez and McClain are gone (although we probably then miss out on Dan Williams).

1.12.) GB - Bryan Bulaga

1.23.) MIA - Brandon Graham OLB
2a.) MIA - Demaryius Thomas WR
2b.) MIA - Nate Allen FS
3.) MIA - Cam Thomas NT
4.) MIA - Jimmy Graham TE
FA) MIA - Karlos Dansby, Scott Fujita

Agree in filling defense in FA - particularly our LB needs. The premier veteran NTs (Wilfork, Hampton, Franklin, Pickett and Jolly) will all be RFAs who will either be franchised or signed long term.

But there are some good veteran LBs with nice size and who aren't too old and who are UFAs - Karlos Dansby (29) and Scott Fujita (30) in particular.

What about using Ronnie to trade up if we could grab Eric Berry?

Moving from 1.12 up to 1.05 with the Redskins would cost 500 points (the value of an early 2nd round pick which is exactly what Ronnie should be worth).

If Berry slips to 5 and the Redskins would prefer to trade back and get Ronnie to replace Portis (concussions/retirement) and Betts (ACL recovery) and then target QB or OT at 1.12, then we could move up to snag Eric Berry to replace Gibril Wilson.

1.05.) Eric Berry FS (pick via WSH for Ronnie and pick 1.12)
2.) Demaryius Thomas WR
3.) Aaron Hernandez TE
4.) Torrell Troupe NT
FA) Karlos Dansby, Scott Fujita

Ronnie is too good and runs the wildcat too well. I wouldn't mess with him.

But if we're not going to sign him long term (which we won't), then we're just going to have him for 2010 and then lose him as an UFA for nothing in 2011.

Wouldn't it be better to get some value for him now?

If and only if bryant and mcclain are gone....I really like this 4 round mock:up:

If we could trade Ronnie to RB-needy teams like HOU or CLE or DET or WSH for an extra 2nd round pick, or trade Ronnie to move up in the draft (like let's say from 1.12 to 1.05 with WSH to snag Eric Berry), then I think that would be better than just renting Ronnie to run the wildcat for one more year.

We shouldn't be running the wildcat anway, not if Henne is progressing as expected.

Right, we don't trade out if Dez or McClain are there at 1.12.

What did you think about the trade-up idea?

Like if Eric Berry slips to 1.05 and the Redskins are interested in Ronnie to replace Portis (concussions/retirement) and Betts (ACL).

We could deal them 1.12 and Ronnie for 1.05.

1.05.) Eric Berry FS
2.) Demaryius Thomas WR
3a.) Aaron Hernandez TE (pick from BUF for Thigpen and Ginn)
3b.) Cam Thomas NT
4.) Ben Tate RB
FA) Karlos Dansby LB, Scott Fujita LB

I love that one but it included a BUF trade where we were able to steal their 3rd round pick by trading them Tyler Thigpen (Bills interest already rumored) and Ginn (maybe to help them replace TO).

I would rather trade back and take Earl Thomas, or Jerry Hughes(Less Likely). I don't see the point in getting rid of Ronnie and needing to use another pick on a RB, and there's not a single back coming out this year with Ronnie's skill set. I love Spiller, absolutely phenomenal, but he's a first round guy. I like the creativeness but I don't think we'd come out on the plus side by trading Ronnie.
