Draft gems, how common are they?

certainly they are less common then busts in the draft.

when you think of this category you think of Tom Brady, Zach Thomas, Marques Colston, Channing Crowder(was a first day pick but he started for us right away)

i made this thread just to get the simple point across is that we need to make our picks matter no matter how many/few we have; players that have an enormous upside and just a slight downside.

i don't know much about prospects in this years draft so enlighten me, who should be taken in the later rounds that has shown huge potential to be a steal?

Channing Crowder is hardly a draft gem. To truly be a gem, at least in my opinion, you have to play better than the pick you were drafted at. So far Channing Crowder has played like a 3rd round pick. Hopefully this year he can start to realize his full potential. I would say Tom Brady, Zach Thomas and Colston all are though. Frank Gore (3rd round, led NFC in rushing yards last year), T.J. Houshmanzadeh (7th round pick), even Terell Owens. Jason Taylor is another player who I would call a draft gem.

A few Gems I know of and like:

Chris Denman OT Fresno St. (I know the fins have been looking at him)
Prescott Burgess OLB Michigan (I think he's much better than he times)
Laurent Robinson WR Illinois St. (Runs great routes, good size and hands)

like the rb from rutgers brian leonard, tennessee wide out jason swain hes alittle smaller and a little faster than his conterpart robert meachum but he does have the ability to make the tough catches when it counts
