Let me start off by saying that I think the smartest thing we did last year was spend 3 of our first 4 picks on the o and dline. Starting the season I was pretty happy with how our 1st team O-line looked, but that didn't last too long. Thomas and Smiley both were out for a significant portion of this season and it was clear that there was absolutely no depth behind either of them. Now on the other side, we have Holliday and Ferguson, both played well but are also getting very old in this league. I loved how Langford played this year as a 3rd rd pick and starting immediately, the guy is going to be solid for us for quite sometime. Merling has yet to show that he can be a starter so far, but it's early so he needs and will be given time. Long story short, we're going to need a NT for the future and I don't see one on the current roster. Enter BJ Raji, I pray this guy is available where we're picking, (Don't think he will though). Athletic and an absolute terror in the middle, can get after the QB as well as stuffing the run. On the other side, don't over look one of the T prospects dropping especially if we don't resign Carey which I hope we will, or possibly a guard like Duke Robinson.

So we won the division with both starting Guards out for significant time and you think our depth sucks! I don't get this arguement, are our backups great; no but their obviousily good enough so I'm not wasting an early pick for a backup. Unless you think someone needs to be replaced like Satele then fine but not for backups that's what the 5/6/7th rounds are for.
If we can't/don't resign Carey and we don't find a reasonable replacement in FA then by all means take the best OT somewhere with our first 4 picks.

NT is huge because of Fergusons age and the unknown in Solai and I think Cody or Raji would be in our range. It's a tricky situation though do you take a Simtim or Spikes and DScott/RBrace later or Raji and a McKillop/Brinkley later.

Totally agree. DT BJ Raji DT Evander Hood from Missouri and/or maybe O line. Like that guard from Oklahoma.

I would discount the FO's ability to find diamonds in the rough in the later rounds (i.e. Philip Merling).

Does our depth suck? No, it doesn't but then again there is a reason we dont run the ball inside (other then Lou P on short yardage downs). That reason is because our entire interior line gets no movement what so ever. IMO, we need to address the center position but that can be done in the 4th or 5th round with a guy like Eric Wood. If we address the center position we can going into the seaon with Smiley, New Center, Thomas and it would allow us to have a top quality backup to all three positions in Satale (I think he would be a better guard then center). I am fairly certian the Fins front office wants a more physical center.

If Carey doesn't come back we are going to have to bring in two OT's as it stands right now we have ZERO depth at OT. We are extremely lucky Long and Carey did not miss any significant time this year. While I don't think both OT's would have to be early picks I do strongly believe one of them would "have" to be a first day pick. Long and short of it is that football gameas are won and lost on the lines.

Cody already said he was coming back for his senior year. I just do not see the value in taking a NT in the first round. IMO, we will go LB or OL with that pick depending on how FA plays out.

whle I agree that the front office can and will find some diamonds in the later rounds you could have used a better example....

Nah, honestly I don't want to touch either Line on the first day.

ILB, OLB, FS - This should be our first day IMO

Fergusson has at least one more good season in him , i'd go Olb , Fs, Cb then pick up a Nt in round 3 , let him learn for a season then start the year after.

ummmm I meant to say Kendall Langford? Merling was a second rounder after all...He did have the interception on Farve...again, not sayin' a whole hell of a lot.

Exactly, especially since the 32nd pick is not a later round...thats' the first day, if not the first ROUND.
