Just letting anyone who didnt know already, we will be picking 26th in the 2009 draft. When was the last time we picked that high. This is awesome.

This cannot be determined already. Plain and simple, don't listen to this guy, because obviously if we win the Super Bowl we'll pick last.

i know thats why i put up the question mark, btw i was discussing it with my roomie the other day how the draft order goes...1-20 are determined correct, then 21-24 wildcard losers (from worst to best record) 25-28 division losers, 29-30 championship losers, then 31-32 loser and winner of superbowl. thats correct right.

he said its other than the teams in superbowl once youre out they go back to your record...i think hes incorrect

damn jt you beat me to it, i went to nfl.com looked at league standings and counted backwards. but yeah thats what i got between 44-47 (they are showing 4 teams tied at 8-8 not counting sd) but show washington the lowest of the 4

i thought that was also true, but last year even though the pats had there 1st round pick taken away, i think we picked 32nd overall instead of them meaning they were going to have the last pick?

According to NFL.com, "Priority of playoff clubs within a tied segment will be based on their advancement in the playoffs, but they will not drop out of their tied segment unless they participate in the Super Bowl." Our tied segment consists of us, Atlanta, and Baltimore -- the three 11-5 teams that made the playoffs.

On regular season strength of schedule, our first-round pick is currently slotted at #26. If we win Sunday, we'll drop back to #27. If Atlanta wins and we lose, we'll move up to #25. The only way we will pick before #25 is if the Chargers make the Super Bowl; the only way we'll pick after #27 is if we do.

One pick that is locked in is our pick from Washington -- that will be #44.

We just got pushed up one pick because there was a pick missing in the first round. If they had got their 7th overall pick taken away instead, we still would have picked 32nd overall.

Check out my sticky thread in the draft forum about the 2009 draft order. You will see that the fins pick is not set yet. Also, the pick from the Redskins is set as the 44th overall pick.

Here's another draft order tidbit I'm sure all the Dolphin faithful will enjoy. Ex-Phin and current 49er place kicker Joe Nedney's Week 17 game-winning 39 yard field goal as time expired dropped the Redskins to 8-8 for the year along with four other teams. Due to opponents' win/loss percentages Washinton picks second among the 8-8 teams in the first round and 13th overall. Per NFL rules, the draft order for teams with identical records cycles up in successive rounds until each team selects first within that group. In other words, since Washington picks second within the 8-8 group in round 1, they would then pick first within that group in round 2 which is 12th in the round and 44th overall. They would if they still owned that pick that is. A year of JT for the 44th pick in the upcoming draft and a 6th next year? Thanks Dan Snyder.

EDIT: Since it took me about 2 1/2 hours to post my "quick" reply due to wife interference, I see several others beat me to the punch with the same info.
