I posted this on VIP, but I thought I'd throw it out here as well.
I was thinking about this whole Walker thing and the values of players and draft picks. I confess a two seems like a pretty good deal for a guy like Welker, but it got me thinking. There are not many players on the team that you wouldn't give up for a 2.
Who on our team is worth a 2 or more?
Ronnie Brown
Zach Thomas (Maybe, age?)
Jason Taylor
Chris Chambers
Anyone else? Dante Culpepper was a 2, is he today?
OLine? No one.
WR: Chambers?
LB: Nope
DBs: Nope
DL: Roth? Maybe.
QBs: Maybe Culpepper but I doubt w'd get a 2 today.
TE: We haven't even gotten a bite for McMichael for a 3.
Bottom line? A two is very valuable.
Which leads us to this question. DO we overvalue draft picks in the NFL over players. Sure looks like it, but than remember a career is pretty short and young players with 4-5 years are more valuable than older players. That's life and draft picks are like gold. Lets hope we use our gold wisely.
