Draft Picks Unsigned

Anyone else concerned about the state of our draft picks? No one signed yet and not even a hint that someone is even close to signing.

It looks like a league wide problem this year with the lack of any 1st rounders signed. If things don't pick up I'm going to start believing that talk about there being slotted pay scales written into the next collective bargaining agreement.

It concerns me. they say ricky will be running in camp before ronnie is around. if we start the season with gordon in first string I will be very disappointed. I don't dislike gordon but I want to see ronnie and eventually ricky running.

I think slotted pay scales should be established.I think its ridiculous that the whole system is held up by the first draft pick.It puts all the power in the hands of the agents some of which are not worthy of that power. The scale should be negotiated by the NFLPA beforehand and all the drafted players should be signed by the start of training camps.

Of course the agents will fight this tooth and nail because it probably will mean reduced agent fees but the end effect is that the players will keep more of the money due to them and there will be no holdouts which are so damaging to teams.

IMO - I don't think that the players would agree to a slotted pay scale.

It's amazing what players will agree to if they want something else.

ie: The NFLPA wants some of the non tv revenue they currently don't get. If the players eventually get this it won't be without concessions and slotting is one minor thing to give up (really all the players who are in the league who vote on this aren't affected. It only affects future players).

I just think it is stupid, how the draft picks hold out until the top pick signs. The point of getting draft is playing in the nfl not making the most money right? On nfl total access they were talking about this very thing, how money is more important to the new players then playing in the prestigious NFL. These college kids, with their big heads, need daddy to beat them around a little bit.

You are absolutely correct, its more of "we'll just screw the rookies, so we get more money"

The whole situation is fragmented all wrong. Rookies get their first foot in the door and it becomes a game of freakin' monopoly with these agents. They don't seem to give a damn anyway.. "Go directly to week one, do not pass go, do not attend training camp" or "I'll do whatever's best for my wallet....errr client".

I want them to sign soon. I'm not worried a whole lot as I'm sure some talks have begun but I'd still love to see Ronnie in training camp. From what I hear, Alex Smith is more than willing to hold out through the preseason so get the right deal.

Funny how the Niners took Smith siting that they would have no trouble working out a deal. The debate was up in the air for Smith and Rodgers and they had a contract workedout with Rodgers. I'll laugh my butt off if Smith holds out a la Rivers last year. Ohh and don't worry about the draft picks. #3 never signs before #2 and #2 never signs before #2...it;s the way they can really test the limits on how much they are going to get. If Smith does decide to hold out then Ronnie will have to bite the bullet and do it. Now of course this is just for the most part, anyone can sign whenever they wish and alot of them will BUT worry not yet guys....it's only mid-July. By the begining of August everyone will be pouring in all signed up.

Normally I'd say no. But we're getting pretty close to it. And we've heard zero in regards to negotiations with our picks.

You have to keep in mind the state of information leakage from the Miami Dolphins under head coach Nick Saban. We've heard nothing, and probably will not hear anything until the players have signed. Heck, if they had their way, we wouldn't hear anything, we'd just see the players practicing during training camp.

One thing we haven't heard (and this is good news) is any of our draft picks' agents bringing the negotiations out into the press, which would be a sign that things are going badly.

Don't be too worried. Like ckparrothead said, Nick Saban keeps a very tight lip on these kind of things. Plus, with Mueller helping out, I am sure our picks will be signed on time.

Last season we started camp on July 30th. Vernon Carey signed ON July 30th. Poole, Bua, Pope and Pape signed on July 29th.

Unreal, I was just about to say the same thing. About how our first rounder signed the day practice started last year.

Good job.
