Drafting a Safety.

dont we have like at least 5 safeties now. mia has alot of needs and all wont be adressed during this draft. we need to focus more on OL, defense linebackers, a corner, TE and a QB.

We have a plethora of safeties right now....Renaldo Hill, Yeremiah Bell, Jason Allen, Cameron Worrell, Keith Davis, and I think there are two more that I can't think off plus they are talking about trying Travis Daniels at that spot. I don't see us looking at a safety in the draft. It's not a need position right now. We need a CB before we need any safeties.

If Tyrell Johnson from Arkansas St. is still available at the top of the 3rd round I think we should take him. But I don't think he'll be there.

Travis daniels is garbage.

No one is talking about safety because we have two key guys coming back from injury and we signed 2 in free agency, one them a definite starter. We added enough depth that the coaching staff canceled plans to move Travis Daniels to S.

Chris Crocker- 55 tackles last year, 3 INT, and 11 passes defensed. He has started 46 games the last 3 years, and will be a starter for us.
Jason Allen
Keith Davis- started in Dallas in 2005 and part of 2006, tough against the run.
Yeremiah Bell
Renaldo Hill
Courtney Bryan
Cameron Worrell
Tuff Harris

If just one of Bell or Hill can come back strong, we'll be 4 deep at the position. There are much more pressing needs, and I don't think we'll spend any of our high picks on a S.

I wouldnt mind taking a safety after the first 2 rounds we have players there but i dont know how many guys we have that could be a quality starter for us in the future. We are weak at basically every position that i wouldnt be upset with any pick based on position, we can use help in them all.

I wouldn't count on Crocker being a starter. He has started a lot for Atlanta....but safety was a position that they were always trying to improve. also, did they try and resign him? Why did he sit unsigned for the first month of free agency?

I would be much happier with Y.Bell and R.Hill or J.Allen.

I don't mind the Crocker signing.....we need good depth, but it's not like we brought in a Pro Bowler or anything.

Nobody is talking about drafting a safety, I think the secondary is our worst area right now. Maybe we could draft one with the 32nd pick but who is out there?

we need DL much much more than safety. Bell (when healthy) Hill, and Allen (after the second half of last year) are all very solid players.

There all average at best, i agree we desperately need an upgrade at the position but #32 may be a bit too early to address it with our other needs.

The only safety worth picking at #32 is Phillips and I don't think he'd drop that far. I also think we're in decent shape at safety. I still wouldn't be suprised if we picked up a safety like Caleb Campbell later in the draft though. After what happened last season at safety, it's safe to say you can never have too many.

Thats the thing with drafting Jake Long . . . he gives us the option of Phillips at 32 . . . I mean lets say the Cason's and Grove's and all the worthy WR's are gone . . . but Kenny Phillips is not . . . he would be a candidate for BPA . . . and I wouldn't mind the pick at all . . . Kenny has tremendous talent . . . and though safety is one of our best positions right now with the bodies we have brought in . . . lets be real . . . Jason Allen is the only SURE thing we have at safety . . . and there are still questions on him . . . Bell has always been injury prone . . . and he is getting old now also . . . . I don't see us drafting a safety . . . but anything is possible.
