Drafting a WR despite not needing one.

I have to disagree. Edwards has a great work ethic, Terell did not. Edwards is easily the closest thing to a can't miss pick in this draft. When Terell was at Mich. he had a lot of other weapons around him that made it impossible to focus on him, which gave him bigger numbers than was normal. This year everyone in the "BIG HOUSE" knew where the ball was going and they still couldn't stop him. Edwards is who I wish they would get if they can't trade down. JMO
Its not necessarily the work ethic I referred to when i said there similarities between Terrell and Edwards. I actually respect Edwards cause at least he does come to work. However, compare their games. Neither is overly physical or fast, they both lack concentration leading to easy drops, both struggle when facing a Db that is physical because neither is going to outrun many pro players, and hes got to be more cognizant of being the "hot wr" in blitz situations (how many balls did Chad Henne throw last year when Edwards wasnt even looking; I can think of at least a half doz), and he's got to have better attention to detail in his routes.

A guy like Edwards is going to have problems in the pro's because he will not be able to overpower and outjump everyone.

Frankly, I like Williams/Smith/Edwards (in that order). Something about Williams gives me chills. He seems to be one of those "God given talents" that's just waiting to explode.

And, on that note, I'd also pick up Boston after the draft. Nothing like a little competition to put the best 3 of 4 WRs on the field. Why settle for 3, when you can have 4?

Is that that big of a deal?

He wouldnt have been picked higher than Larry Fitzgerald or Roy Williams? Dont forget that that was last year too before he his senior campaign. I saw this guy dominate against Texas in the biggest game of his college career. I should say I am neither for Edwards or against him. But to say that as a junior he wouldnt have been picked higher than Larry Fitzgerald or Roy Williams is not a big deal at all.
While Edwards is very fine, I don't think it's good value. If we are going WR, I rather trade down pick up Mark Clayton and have at least one extra pick.
WR are more prone to bust than any other position in the first round. I'm not angry at you guys. I'm just peeved at our situation now. :fire:

Quit your pouting!!! Nobody at all...Come on? Every reciever that comes out of michigan is not going to be David Terrell. Set aside your prejudice and look at the facts objectively. Besides we'll probably trade down anyhow.
Its not pouting. I was dead serious when I said Id rather have no one at all.

And if not David Terrell, maybe Desmond Howard?

Its not even the fact hes a Michigan wr that bothers. I have no prejudice; I neither like or hate Michigan and in fact I like Hart and Henne a lot. Its the fact that hes just not that good imo. :shakeno:

I would way rather a trade down and not take a WR. But my whole post was about how if we were stuck at #2 Edwards is still an ok choice (because frankly he is the only choice I see the Dolphins making unless Smith is there, this could all change in a couple hours from now the way this draft is going).

I would say that QBs have a bigger bust factor than anyone but thats JMO.

IS Saban a BPA type of guy? The bills took Evans and Willis and they turned out to be good moves, so far.

Yeah hopefully things will get better before draft day. Saban is smart and started this flurry of draft rumors, so he'll find something else up his sleeve--hopefully.

No one can answer that because we havent seen him in action yet.

Based on what Ive read, my inclination is to say that he will go with whoever he feels fits his system whether its BPA or guys that he feels just happen to be the right fit.

There's no need to consider drafting WR B. Edwards IMO. Not because he wouldn't be great in Miami, but because we'll be trading down with someone, and most likely wont even have a chance at him....

The ONLY way Edwards ends up in Miami is if we stay put and take him at #2 overall. That is highly unlikely with the way things are shaping up. Saban would be foolish to pass on any trade down possibilities with only a total of 5 picks this year. He needs as many picks as he can get, and to do that he'll have to trade down....

I say we trade down with Minnesota, get their #7 / #18 / late rounder / as compensation. Use the #7 overall on one of the RB's or possibly WR M. Williams{if he's there}, and the #18 on the BPA...

PHINZ RULE!!!

Good Post
I would pick up anyone of these guys in any order(William/ Smith/ Edwards) We need WR help on this team, an injury to Chris Chambers would leave us up the creek without a paddle.

I also like Boston, but I have this feeling that he is done, at least in Miami.

If only you were the one making our first pick....

I've been saying it for a couple weeks now...Mike Williams is going to make every single team that passed on him pay dearly. Give him 2-3 years and he'll be the reciever that everyone wants on their fantasy football team because he's averaging 2 TDs a game.

You make alot of great points. And it may make the most sense to pick edwards. But IMO i just dont like it. I really think the fins need a qb or a rb before they go with the wr. With out the running game there is no passing game. I guess i could go on and on why, but what ever happens i just hope it works out. After watching espn's top 25 draft busts on espn classic the other night you really have no idea what will work out till you try it. So lets just sit back and enjoy the draft and hope for the best!!!
See yea at the draft!!!!!

I think WR is one of our priorities. You need 3 good WR in today's NFL, preferably with 2 of them being guys who can stretch the field. We don't have that. Part of the reason our running game has struggled the last 2 seasons is because our pass offense doesn't scare anybody, especially deep. Chambers is a deep threat, but Fiedler didn't have the arm to get it to him.

What good are receivers when you have a chump like Feeley at QB. All he knows how to do is throw the ball to the guys in the wrong color shirts at exactly the time it counts the most... for the other team.
