I would rather spend all that money that a #1 overall pick gets on a Franchise LT than a DE

And looking at previous Drafts , There havent bee many Good DE drafted in the 1st round..

Trying to hear diffrent opinions

Even though the Pace deal fell through...Jake Long is still the most sensible pick...i agree

Just out of curiosity why must Jake Long be the pick? What makes him the best Tackle in the draft?

He has the best tools and he is proven .. all he needs to do is work on his foot work .. I think he and C.Williams are the best LT in the draft ..

Are you hating cause he's from Michigan? (Out of curiosity)

It really depends on how they grade Jake Long's chances at being an elite LT. If they don't feel he will be, I think the pick is Chris Long.

Parcells has taken something like 5 LB's in first rounds (a couple top 5's) 3 DE's and 3 OL (1 Tackle)....He really likes taking defense first round and C. Long seems like he fits the Parcells mold and the 3-4 perfectly.

I agree we need a great LT, and if they think Jake Long is one...they may very well take him. If they don't...this draft is really deep with OT's and I'm sure there will be one at 32 or 57. Our coach is an O-Line guy and we have some great evaluators. It will all depend on how they weigh the options and how they think of Jake Long.

I am hoping for Chris Long, but Jake Long is right behind him. I'd take Gholston, McFadden, Clady, etc. before Ryan though...just to put it out there.

I have heard they are interested in Williams. Maybe he'll be there at 32.

I think I've seen other posts just like this trying to make an argument that drafting "insert any position here" in the early 1st round is a bad idea because that position produces more busts that high.

Every single one of those arguments are absurd as is the latest one right here.

No I do not hate him because he is from michigan. J. Long has great run protection, Nice arm length, and strength. However at the pro level he will struggle with pass protection.

Now IMO the Tackle that has everything you look for is Ryan Clady. Great in both run, and pass protection, Great arm length, and the best footwork. Now between him and Long, Long is more NFL ready but Clady will be the best Tackle in this class.

Maj....you just don't like those Michigan guys....hey I can understand that since you are a Buckeye...what you gonna do when we take Jake Long and Henne at QB? Two Wolverines.

We should look at it this way, if you take C.Long 1st can you get a high level OT with our 2nd(Baker,Cherilus,Nicks). Compare that to J.Long 1st and whatever DE is available at our 2nd(Jackson,Merling,Sims,Moore). I like C.long and G.Cherilus myself, just another way to look at it.

I said Id be fine if we selected J. Long. Id be fine with Henne too. If Parcells drafts them then thats all you can do.

Henne to Ginn... Never thought Id say that

so you take the best of the best vs the worste of the worste... yeah that's fair.

is there an anti thanks button I can click?

His name...

He's not the best tackle in this draft, and even if he was, it's not by a very wide margin. I would much rather take someone like Chris Williams, Carl Nicks, or Barry Richardson (personal favorite) with one of our seconds, and not WASTE the top pick on Jake Long. IMO, Richardson will end up being this year's McNeill, one of the STEALS of this draft, and better than Jake. Just wait.

Chris Long NEEDS to be the pick. Enough said.
