Well, after this weekend's games it's pretty obvious that Miami is one of the worst teams in the NFL. The only upside there is to that is that Miami is now in line (barring some sort of turnaround after the bye week) to have one of the top 3 picks. This may be a good draft to have one of those picks (not like the Ronnie Brown draft) where Miami couldn't give the 2nd pick away. If the Draft was tomorrow, the #1 pick would be Arizona's and then by coin flip Miami and Detroit would have the 2nd and 3rd picks... Arizona wont be looking for either QB or WR. I dont think that there is an offensive lineman will warrant the #1 pick so either Arizona would trade that pick or they would draft defense. Detroit would almost be forced to take Brady Quinn - after the Joey Harrington disaster - they need to FINALLY fix that QB situation... MUCH LIKE MIAMI... Some people don't seem to think that Miami needs to draft QB - I think that only Culpepper and the coaching staff know the truth. If Culpepper can take this time to get everything in order (Mental and Physical) then Miami could sit pretty with either of the top 3 picks. Miami could draft need in Calvin Johnson or trade down, pick up more picks and possibly land on Joe Thomas, OT, Wisconson or Sam Baker, OT, USC... If Miami thinks they need to draft Brady Quinn, and we lose out on the 2nd pick - then Miami is going to have to leap frog Detroit and probably add a 2nd or more to lure that pick away from Arizona. Miami is in need of various players and having only 1 pick in the 1st (no matter how high it is) doesn't necessarily help unless you have a guy you absolutely love and get him. This draft seems to be full of talented receivers and defensive linemen... This might be the first draft in a while where the Miami Dolphins can actually draft the best available player and he happens to fill a need position. Either way I hope we get our guy, whoever he is... Just my 2 cents...

Honestly, I didn't read all of your post. But to answer the question: No doubt about it, you draft the best player. UNLESS you are obviously very talented in that particular position. Then you just move to the next guy. You do not draft (and reach) for need. Period.

eh im not a fan of drafting BPA over NEED. If we NEED an LG, and the best DE in NCAA is available...and a Top 5 LG is right behind him, i take the LG.

if Brady Quinn is available when we pick...and Calvin Johnson is also available...i pick Calvin Johnson.

BPA. always. you don't draft for one season.

Agree 100%.

I believe in a modified BPA approach. If the jets were to get the #4 pick, they obviously should not take a LT, they already got D'Brick.

Just like Miami, we already have Daunte and Joey, and we're not ready to take another QB. But, looking at our roster, I think we should take the BPA, with the exception of QB and RB.

UF Fin Kat, you agree?

generally you want to steer away from positions that either A) are loaded with talent or B) loaded with money (or both).

I'm all about BPA but it's not 100%.
If the best player available in the '86 draft was a quarterback we would have been idiots to draft him. Marino was kicking ***, and would continue to do so for years. If the BPA at our pick is a running back I have to pass on him even if he is a blue chip prospect, I'd rather trade down and amass picks and keep Ronnie.

Are DC and JH sure things? Heck no.
Let the season play out. If DC and JH remain unspectacular we darn well better draft a young QB or we will set the franchise back another 3-4 yrs.

Saban once said "you can never have to many talented qbs". Now, it would seem like we don't have any. If Quinn is there, we'll take him.

I never understand how people make statements like this. At least say, "I hope we'll take him." But to act like it is a foregone conclusion makes you sound foolish.

IS EDDIE MOORE AVAILABLE IN THIS DRAFT TOO? i sure hope we have a great for once.
