Drafting Ronnie Was Our BEST MOVE ! !

Can you say 8 men in the box?

No but seriously, I believe Linehan is creative enough to mix up the looks we're giving opposing defenses. At least to the point where they can't stack the box every down, because of their lack of respect of our passing game. (ala the Wannstedt/Forrester/Turner era)

If Ronnie has to be Barry Sanders to succeed, then you are asking way too much. Sanders is one of the all time greatest backs in NFL history and while Ronnie may be awesome, if you need that calibre of running back to succeed, you are going to be waiting a long time. Ronnie may have all the tools to surprise, yes, but certainly the odds are heavy against him being another Barry Sanders, or even to be highly successful this season:

1. He missed almost the entire training camp.

2. His offensive line is one of the worst I have ever seen.

3. He has never carried the entire load during a college season, let alone an NFL season, raising legitimate questions about his durability.

4. No one respects our passing game.

Ronnie carried the load when Cadillac was hurt for an entire year.....look up info before u post misinformation....the same can be said about Cadillac, if he was so GREAT why did they let him split with Ronnie?

the point of this thread is to say that drafting Ronnie was a better move than drafting a QB or WR with the #2 pick.....can you imagine if the Dolphins would've given Braylon a $20 million dollar signing bonus when we have Chambers/Booker Welker and Boston on the roster......that would of have been DISASTROUS!!!!!

Can you imagine the Dolphins giving a $20 million dollar signing bonus to a RB when they have Ricky/Gordon/Morris/Minor on the team? That would be disasterous!

We really need to get rid of two backs...namely gordon and minor...just a waste of cap space. Minor finally got his chance last year. He couldn't do it. Gordon is a china doll FCS!

Great post!

All this talk about how loaded we are at RB is a joke. Kay-Jay Harris could be a nice special teams player. Gordon is SOFT, he looked so good in Mini Camp because there was no contact. Minor should be cut, I agree.

We have Williams and Brown. And we learned how stupid it is to put all your eggs in the Ricky Williams basket last year. Brown was the best pick the Dolphins could have made based on the situation.

He's a Dolphin now, move on and get over it.

First off, I agree that the roll of an RB has changed in the NFL. It is no longer enough to run like Barry. You have to also be a receiving threat a lead blocker and be able to pick up a blitz. This is precisely why Ronnie was rightfully the #2 overall pick in the draft. Secondly, many people in this thread said that we should have traded down and gotten more help in more areas. This was exactly Saban's approach. He tried unsucessfully to trade down for weeks leading up to the draft. No one would pay the prescribed price for that #2 pick. Saban kept the pick and took the appropriate player at that point. Since Cadillac Williams can NOT catch, block or pick up a blitz there is no need to further discuss why we took Ronnie at #2. It was our best option at that time. He imo will certainly prove that he was worth the pick, even if it wasn't our greatest need at the time. This is very similar to taking Marino with our 1st round pick the year after a young Woodley took us to the Superbowl. Not our biggest need at that time, but the right pick, it worked out pretty well.
