Drew Rosenhaus confirms Richard Marshall is challenging Davis for his spot at CB

I don't know how, but somehow all us fin fans have accepted the narrative that Davis and Smith are this HOF duo that is moments away from realizing their potential. I for one am sick of the "P" word - either step up and produce, or step aside. Vontae is average when you look at his stats. He is by no means a lock for a starting position, or even a long term role on this team.

Totally agree with you. Simply look at our pass defense rating over the last 3 years and you'll find that we are in the bottom 3rd for 2 of the 3 seasons.

Just because we picked them doesn't make them sick.

Look at where Davis is ranked amoung cornerbacks and look at how low Sean is ranked.

This is probably MUCH MORE about Sean not being able to play the slot than it is about Vontae being demoted.

Marshall and Vontae will be able to cover whoever they match up best against is what i think this is about.

Vontae Davis is unquestionably a better Cornerback than Sean Smith.

Honestly I don't know why this is surprising... We have a new head coach and a new DC... They don't have history with these players and are forming their own impressions.. I don't think there is any question at this point that this is an audition for Marshall... You don't hold a guy out for days/weeks and take him out of crucial reps just to send a message... it's not disciplinary... They are taking a long look at Marshall and why not?

alot of hate for smith around here. dude really came on at the end of the season, and as of last year I didn't notice him shying away from contact. /shrug.

I wouldn't want to lay money on that.

Who would Tom Brady rather throw against, or who would any OC on any of the teams we played last year target?

I hope Sean plays better and improves.

Let's see how the games play out. I can't wait to see what kind of team we field this year.

I like Vontae Davis, he is a natural corner. He likes to hit people and he likes to INTERCEPT passes whenever he can. :d-day:

I like them both, but I can only read the edvidence, and right now it's pointing to vonte being outperformed, not smith. competition should only make the three of them better and thus our secondardy should improve.

We DON'T get to see what is happening in training camp.

Davis was the top projected corner back in his draft class, he is a blue chip player. Sean Smith was a PROJECT player at safety.

Don't let the media's nonsense distract you from the facts

Davis is our number 1 CB. When he got hurt, our Defense was shredded. Marshall will remain number 1 nickel and if clemons gets hurt dont be surpised to see him start at safety. Marshall will be a starting CB next year after we let Sean Smith go and draft a new CB with first or second pick.

I'm not the one in danger of ignoring the facts here. Fact is Vonte isn't on the field as often as smith and that when he's not on the field marshall is.
