Drew Rosenhaus implies Flynn wasn't a "priority" for Fins

I assume....Philbin wasn't high on him...that being said...if Flynn goes on to greatness...Philbin and Ireland should be sent packing.

So you're saying we might have been interested and he may have been the answer for us, but only at the right price? See how silly that sounds?

It doesn't sound silly at all, you don't put all your eggs in one basket when there is potentially a better option still available on the market. If Philbin was really conviced Flynn was the answer, he would've never let Flynn leave Miami. Outside of the Packer organization, no one knows Flynn as well as Philbin, so why people think this is a "swing and miss" especially over a seventh rounder with below average arm strength, is a mystery to me. Philbin realizes, whoever he brings in as our QB will have a serious affect on his future as a head coach. If I were him, I would not risk my first head coaching job on an inexperienced seventh rounder that I know very well unless I was 100% certain he was a franchise QB.

Contrary to popular belief, we have to exercise our patience a little longer to find a franchise QB. Peyton Manning had no intention on coming here at all, Marino practically begged him to meet with the Dolphins, and when he did, our organization was the only one who had to go to him (what kind of $#!T is that!!!).

Flynn, a seventh round draft pick, is not the savior of this franchise. I'll admit, he put up some gaudy numbers in his only two starts, so I will not discount that at all, but can he play a whole season at a high level, I have my doubts because Philbin knows Flynn's weaknesses, NFL teams don't have enough tape on him that would expose those weaknesses yet. Philbin had his reservations (for good reasons) about giving Flynn a big contract. I trust their approach on this matter.

I think Alex Smith is a decent option as a WCO QB. Is he ideal...No, but if we have to sign someone, I like him better than Flynn, Garrard, and anyone else available. Hopefully Peyton signs with the 49ers, we sign Alex Smith and still draft either Ryan Tannehill, Kirk Counsins, Brandon Weeden, or Brock Osweiler because Matt Moore's contract ends after this upcoming season and if Alex Smith pans out, there is no reason to resign Moore with one of the aforemetioned draftees on the roster because new coaches eventually will bring in their own QB to fit their system.

Trading away Brandon Marshall without a clear cut solution in place baffles me, but at least the talent at WR in this year's draft is very deep, so I trust this issue will be rectified than.

It is what it is everyone....MAN UP! I want a franchise QB as much as the next fan, but looking back, we were never in the running for Manning and he is the ONLY franchise QB on the market.

Right, every coach should be sent packing when they miss on a player.

Great philosophy. Wonder what the HC turnaround would be if this type of logic were the rule. Guess all 31 other head coaches would be fired after Brady slipped huh? Fantastic post!

Because they didn't want to seem desperate to Smith? Because they offered him a deal to be Moore's backup? Because maybe Sherman wanted to take a look at him before he agreed with Philbin that he wasn't the guy? Who knows? Imjust don't believe for ONE second that we swung and missed on Matt Flynn.

I would think this is probably as likely an answer as any. Moore, once he got some starts under his belt, seems to be competent. Flynn could be another Brady, but more likely he's a Billy Volek. Like Fitzpatrick on the Bills, Moore might not be a "franchise QB", but if the Jests can make the AFC Conference Championship with Sanchez, Moore or Fitzpatrick can get their teams to the playoffs if they have some decent talent around them.

Apparently, Smith has said that he'd like to return to San Francisco unless they sign Manning, but I'm not sure that he'd be a great loss, either. Until 2011, Smith wasn't anything special and largely considered a bust, and even in 2011, despite putting up nice stats, the Niners struggled to score TDs in the red zone, which is a red flag about the quality of their QB play since teams can play tighter coverage in the confined space between the 20 and the end line of the end zone.

Only time will tell, but if Philbin was sure about Flynn, they would have offered him $8MM/yr. The same can be said about Ryan Tannehill. Mike Sherman has to know him better than anybody, so if the Browns don't draft him at 4, and we pass on him at 8, he may have a "Brady Quinn experience."

I thought I read somewhere that Marshall may be facing a suspension. It could be a case of Miami just being tired of his off-field "issues". The Bills traded away Travis Henry in 2005 because he was in trouble with positive drug tests and other run-ins with the law. He was a good RB but his off-field baggage was a problem. I think he eventually ended up in prison.

The only problem I have with this argument is if Flynn was garbage and we knew it, then why did we wast our time with bringing him down here for an interview and potential contract talks ??? Seems silly to do when you don't really think he's worth our while. Mmmm, could it be we got caught trying to get him on the cheap and he called us on it, and now we are covering ourselves???

To see if we could get him for cheap

I'd like the Fins to draft Tannehill :d-day: but only because they would leave a better player on the table for the Bills who go at #10.

IMO, Tannehill is a second rounder who's being hyped by amateur and media draft gurus because there's not any great QB prospects in this draft except for Luck and Griffin. I don't think the pros consider him worth a first rounder, especially a top ten pick. I'd be surprised if he went before #25 or so.

:thanks:, I'm aware of that, but contrary to the victim's allegations, it was Marshall's crazy wife was involved in the altercation, not Marshall. If the reports are consistent, than it baffles me, plus Marshall reports he was traded because he did not fit Philbins system. Now I understand that reason, but still I would expect more in return when trading a Pro Bowl caliber WR. In the end, I'm ok with it, I'm just anxious about how they will improve this position now.

as soon as we didn't sign flynn i knew that philbin was not that high on him. however, there was some loyalty there. if the dolphins are in need of a quarterback, and they do not even have flynn in for a visit, how does that look for flynn? seriously. i'm positive philbin did not want to put that kind of stink on him, and also tried to help him get more money elsewhere (see: seahawks. also see: suckers). he was helping out his boy, and it was the right thing to do. philbin doesn't care about the "pr hit" for swinging and missing at flynn (and thank god). he is going to build this team the right way, his way, in his image.

Flynn was a bit of a gamble no doubt time could prove us wrong, Smith was a bust for 4 years and new system he shines so what does that tell you when on top of that the 49ers's traded up in the draft last year and picked a rookie QB high in the draft. When you do that you basically have a plan of starting and playing that rookie. So niether QB is set to carry their team and Smith did not throw that many TDs last year either. So niether guy looks like he can carry a team. I personally am glad we did not go any further in the Manny sweepstakes your talking about one player who is going to tie up a ton of your cap space if he plays and he is one good hit away from that neck having another issue. He might be throwing the ball fine but how is his body going to take the pounding. He reminds me of Marinio after he tore his achile tendon he played well but was not the same and was on a downward spiral from that point forward in his career. As far as Clark and Crowder both guys are not super stars just decent players who got their feelings hurt because they were not valued as high as they thought they should. All this Ireland bashing really started after Ireland slipped in the draft when the kid he was interviewing mentioned his mother was a prostitute and his father a pimp. I have 2 thought on that basically most of you would think the same thing that Ireland said out loud and 2 why in the world would Dez Bryant or anyone admit that about their parents. Geezh who a little pride.

Smith also played in like 5 different offenses with multiple coaches that changed every year. Not saying he's great, just saying. Flynn has showed about as much as Kolb, and that worked out so well for Arizona after a year they've seen enough.

The fact that Miami didn't see him as a franchise QB almost certainly means he will be. The evaluation of talent by these morons is baffling. We won't make a run at ANYTHING until Ross and Ireland are gone. Take that to the bank.

And Alex Smith is garbage. That we offered him $8 mil per (that's franchise QB money, folks) shows exactly how "adept" our front office is at evaluating talent.
