Has anyone really thought about the change in quaterback as the possible reason for so many dropped balls this year. My personal thought is our receiving core was pretty much used to catching soft passes from Penny during practice and during games. Now we have someone that throws tight spirals with a lot of velocity. I know they all work together in practice but at real game speed against opposing defenders which do not cover them during weekly practices plus the timing of Henne's much stronger arm, these balls only take a split second to reach our receivers. This is a situation that will get better as time goes on in my opion. I'm just putting this out there because last season we had our drops but nothing compared to this year as a whole. Ball velocity has alot to do with it. Your thoughts.

Of course they all got use to flutter bug passing to them with so much air under the pass that even a 747 pilot would say:

"damn that's a lot of air under that ball!"

I think it's a combination of things but I certainly think that is a contributing factor. Of course our receivers need to focus and do their jobs but I think it's reasonable that the difference in the types of passes that they're seeing could make them more likely to drop.

its been 6 weeks of practice now... how much time do they need to adjust?

Cam seems okay!

If guys were going on IR with broken fingers then let's talk but we're doing a combintation of things contributing to the problem. Turning up field before catching the ball, looking for the defense instead of expecting the hit, not committing to the ball-opening the hips, catching it at it's highest point etc.....but most important we're losing concentration.

Yea I think its an issue. NFL wide receivers need to adjust because thats what they get paid to do. Hopefully we can overcome it throughout the season.

look at it this way...in your life's work, do your superiors ever change up your workload? every throw you a "fastball" now & then; or ask you to pick up the pace? ever drop the ball on them? if so, what was their response to your inconsistency? catching a ball is these guys j-o-b...catch the dang ball!!!

Yes it is part of the issue and the closer you are to recieving that pass the harder it is to adapt. I think that is why you see Bess having issues he is acually hand catching the balls but with the speed with which they arrive he also ends up body catching some of them as they bounce around which had led to his fumbles. You can see Bess really concentrating on catching the ball in the last game and taking the hit instead of running with the ball after the catch.

I think everyone has been thinking this, it seems the receivers can't catch with there arms.. they try to body catch henne's balls i blame the receiving core more than the QB for the drops. but thats just my opinion, Maybe when henne gets more comfortable he will be able to float the ball better to guys who don't seem to consistently catch it like fasano ginn and bess.. who knows

enough with the idiotic excuses !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bess also muffed a punt too, I don`t think the punter kicked it any harder then other punters we`ve faced, LOL.

Hey I agree with you in regards to the punt. Bess is looking like he is really working at in IMO. He is waiting longer now to catch the ball before running. It may mean less yards after the catch but that is how to get is staightened out. You also have to figure that he is getting better coverage as he has been our go to recieve for the last year and opposing teams have figured that out. What is Welkers YAC by the way?

If we had a Moss on the team then these idiotic excuses you refer to would look pretty good as they would be getting open with more YAC. With a weaker pass offense and an irractic Ted Ginn that really magnify's and limits some os what our recievers can do.

I might be more apt to believe it is Henne if several passes hadn't been dropped that were thrown by Penny (notably Ginn in Indy) and a few by Ronny (most notably drops by Fasano). Our recivers and TE are just not concentrating. Drops are 99% mental which ultimately equates to coaching. Favre throws harder than Henne and the Viking receivers catch his throws just fine. Next theory please...or better yet, let's just quit qith the drops theory and just chalk it up to a lack of concentration.
