I asked this in one of the Ricky threads but it didn't get answered so I figure I'd ask it here:

How long does a player remain in the drug program? As far as Ricky is concerned...How long does the one year suspension for another failed test hang over his head?

I ask this because I feel that the answer is directly correlated to his future trade value (if thats the route that Saban is going to take).

I can't say with certainty, but my understanding has been that a player is in that program for the duration of his NFL career.

Once a player is in the Drug Treatment program, he's in for his NFL career.

4real?? So up to 12 tests a month for his career? I see why old boy from Minny bought the Wizzinator.

Yap, he is in there until he retires.

And stays in when they un-retire,as in Ricky's case.

Actually, a player that enters the drug program does not automatically stay there the rest of his career. If a player successfully completes stage 2 of the Leagues drug intervention policy (2 years clean) then he is out of the program. His next offense will land him in stage 1, just as if he had never been in the program before. However, if a player violates the terms, refuses to comply, or tests positive during his stage 2 period, he is accelerated to stage 3, where he remains for the rest of his NFL career. If a player tests positive while in stage 3, he is out for a year and must request to be reinstated. Whether or not the player is reinstated is solely at the discretion of the commissioner. Testing positive during a suspension while in stage 3 could very well lead to an indefinate banishment.
Ricky was only a month or so from successfully completing Stage 2 when he tested positive for marijuana in 2004, so Ricky is indeed in stage 3, where he will remain for as long as he plays football.

Thanks, good info.

Rick could have cut a deal with the NFL and only done 6 months of the drug testing but it involved paying a heft fine and he opted to take the tests for a full year. Had he gone the other way he may have avoided his current situation.

thats why i think ricky didnt take anything knowingly

Was anything released as far as details in the RW situation - or just he's suspended for a year? Do we know what he took - knowingly or unknowingly?

Even though ricky wont be playing this yr he will still be expected to participate this yr in order to play next yr:cooldude:

Absolutely untrue. I just heard on ESPN he is not permitted anywhere near the Dolphins facility for the entire year.

i would like to know an email address that i can send a compliant to concerning there decision for ricky. Love him or hate him to have to admit that he got a raw deal. Sure if it was another mary jane positive i could see him getting a year off, but this is for something different (speeder) according to the press. This definitely could have come from a suppliment. I am pizzed at the nfl right now and would like an email to vent to. any suggestions?
