DT and CB before the draft is a must

Yes I agree with your concerns with both the secondary and defensive line. The problem is they have too many holes and not enough picks to fill them all. I don't trust Grier's ability to find average starters outside the first 2 rounds.

Still have major holes at OG, DT, CB, S and DE. Plus question marks at both OT spots, with Armstead's status unknown, no idea how Paul is going work out as a full time starter and Jackson coming back after missing most of the 2024 season. James Daniels also trying to return after missing most of the 2024 season with an Achilles injury.

Right now they have no quality swing OT and below average depth at OG and C. Also need better depth at several other positions. A lot of question marks all over the roster.
Agree. Lots of needs. I think the three biggest are (in no order), corner, defensive tackle and offensive guard. Then safety.

Daniels will start at one guard spot, obviously. That helps.

I think if Miami can get a DT who can rush the passer that could be huge.

My first three rounds, something like...

1). Harmon or Grant DT
2). Makuba or Watts S
3). Wilson or Ratledge OG

Agreed, a dominant DT that is solid against the run and can also rush the passer, starting next to Sieler would be huge. We'll see If they can re-sign Campbell at a reasonable price while also adding another young DT for depth.

Well we have a rotational safety from the jets and then the guy from the lions who doesn’t stay healthy… so even if he is “starter” quality… who’s starting after his probable injury?

Unless you’re thinking McMorris is a starter?

We need one more starting quality player at safety.
I mean I'd like to see an upgrade for sure, but I wouldnt be upset if they ran with Davis, Melifonwu, and Mcmorris plus a 4th-7th rounder if it means getting OG, CB and DT in the first 3 rounds.

I also really like Pearce, who I think could be the best pass rusher in this class. Pearce makes sense considering Phillips and Chubb can't stay healthy.

But, I do think Harmon or Grant would really help this defense. It still starts with stopping the run, and Buffalo has evolved its running game. The Bills are still the team the Dolphins are chasing.

I think its a stronger safety draft than a corner draft, but I do agree with you. I think that group of safeties could work out. Miami's corners are all unproven except really for Ramsey and Kohou. Although, it's not out of the question that Duck, Smith, or Johnson step up given the opportunity.

Im very worried about CB. You need at least 3 good CB's, and we have 1 who is over 30. I suspect we trade for CB and spend at least 1 pick on CB next month. CB is our weakest position.

I think the NFL has also proved that the DL matters significantly more than the secondary. If you don't get pressure, even the best CBs/Safeties aren't gona hold up forever. I'd be okay with a better frontline than secondary. But again, I'd probably want CB @13 because the drop off in talent in a lot larger in the 2nd/3rd than the drop off from DT and OG in those rounds respectively

I think Will Johnson and Jahdae Barron are definitely in play.

Not to sound like a pessimist, but both the defensive line and secondary need a lot of work.

It's really only Seiler and Robinson on the defensive line with the hope that Chubb and Phillips come back.

Besides Ramsey, who isn't a young player, that's about the only certainty in the secondary.

Have to think early picks are spent on defense line and secondary players.
I am starting to like the idea of taking the DB Barron at 13.

Daniel Jeremiah ranked him as his number 8 overall prospect on his Big Board.

Even though he is viewed as a Swiss Army knife, he has played outside and thats where we need him the most. He is a ball hawk and a good tackler.

As much as I would like to trade down and pick up extra draft capital, other teams don't want to give that up so easily so finding a trading partner might not be so easy. Also he might not be available if we trade down.

Like Jihad Campbell, Barron is one of the safest prospects in this draft. You just know he is going to be good at the NFL level.

He was one of the better testing corners at the combine and we know how good he was in college.

Then we can address OL in round 2. There should be some quality OG's available there.

I like the Arizona OG Jonah Savaiinaea. Tate Ratledge is another OG I like. He tested so well at the combine he should be a good fit since we like athletic OG's. They are both natural OG's so they wouldn't have to change positions.

Then in round 3 we should address DT. Ty Robinson is a player who I like there. He was one of the best testing IDL at the combine and he was productive at Nebraska. Hopefully Calais returns and we could then have a nice rotation of Sieler, Campbell and Robinson.

We should be able to find s good SS at 114. Jonas Sanker or Lathan Ransom should be available. Sanker was tremendous at the combine. I feel like Davis could end up being our starting FS. He excels in coverage and has more career INT's than Holland.

13. DB Barron

48. OG Savaiinaea or Ratledge

98. DT Robinson

114. S Sanker or Ransom

135. WR Tory Horton or TE Oronde Gadsden - We add a weapon for our offense.

151. NT Cam Jackson - Tough run defender with good size and tested well for a NT at the combine.

156. RB DJ Giddens - Good size and speed 6'0 212 4.43 40

I agree. Barron is going to be a good NFL player and there really isn't much jumping out in free agency at corner. Amos and Porter are possibilities in R2, if Grier goes in a different direction at 13.

I like both the offensive linemen you've listed in R2. Ersery is another that I'm high on, although OG would be a projection for him. Ratledge's teammate Wilson is another.

There is no "could be". He definitely is, that is if you use snaps per pressure ratio as an indicator. He generated pressure once every 4.7 snaps. Better than anyone else in the class on that basis. 500 pass rush snaps over the past two seasons combined. 107 pressures (sacks+hits+hurries). Better than even Abdul Carter.

DT, no it’s a very deep DT class. There’s no need to waste money on it. I would like another corner though. Don’t trust Grier drafting another corner at all after iggy and cam.

I really like Pearce. He's on my top 5 list for Miami. I think he eventually would replace Chubb or Phillips.

His first step and speed is best in class IMO and, with the Dolphins chasing Buffalo, improving the pass rush is important.

With a glaring hole at corner, that's where I believe Grier will go at 13. But that could change if Miami lands a FA corner.
