Daniel Thomas has been ripped, on a regular basis, by many here, and I don't get it. A closer look.

Last year, DT ran 109 times for 404 yards, a 3.7 avg caused 21 missed tackles, and scored 4 TD's. In receiving, he caught 15 of 16 passes for 63 yards but 2 TD's. His total of 6 was second to Clay on or team. He scored vs Cleve, a 13 point win, Atl a 4 point win, SD a 4 point win, Pitt a 6 point win, and receiving vs NE twice, one in point win. He did not win those 4 games but sure did help.

His average should better but, anyone think that a better OL may have gotten him another 30-40 yards to put him over a 4.0 average? Also, in 2012, he had 4 TD's on 91 carries, which was 3rd behind Bush with 6, and Fasano with 5.

Why do many want to get rid of a guy who puts points on the scoreboard?

I have a problem with his 3.6 avg for his career. As to his TD's they were nice and all but I think any mediocre back could have provided the same results. We have probably seen the most we will ever get out of DT, best we move on and give a younger back at a shot at being mediocre for us.
 
How many of those TDs you are bringing up were off 10 + yard breaks? The majority of his scores (if not all of them) are well inside the 5 yard line. There is nothing impressive about his game.

I'll have to look it up but the "eye" test, most of his TD's are off 1-2 yard goal line runs.

Rarely does he make big plays.

The biggest reason for him getting ripped on FH is that he chokes on critical plays. Can't tell you number of times on 3rd and short Thomas just flops at the line and gets zero movement.

How can you be a the 'power back' yet, can't convert a 3rd and Inches.

Sure we could go into how the O-line sucked and why are we running toss and sweep players on 3rd and Inches in stead of stuffing it up the middle, but he fails the 'eye' test.

Of all the RB's in the NFL, running short, long or in between, He was #28, and had fewer chances than anyone above him, with many having more than double the chances. While I do agree that he was not good in short yardage, has anyone looked at what he was running up against, Zonk woulda had problems.

IMO, the average was misleading, at least last year.

FWIW, PFF had DT at #15 of all NFL RB's on their eye test of getting what he was able to on every play, every game.
 
I think he has been criticized like most of our offense for being pedestrian. He can break some tackles and that is fun to watch, but it all averages out to less than 4 yards per carry. That won't cut it. His pass blocking is not good either. I think Pudgy Moreno will be his replacement, although he's only a 4.0 runner in Peyton's offense which has me a bit worried.
I don't think the line helped our backs, but I doubt Thomas is anything close to special even with a good line so moving on would be smart. Miller still ran for 4.0 last year even with that bad line, which was a drop from his rookie year I think, but a third of a yard is the difference and Thomas has a year on him. Like somebody here said, giving another young back a shot should give better results, and at least the same.

Not that it matters much but, name players like Steven Jackson, Pierre Thomas, Chris Johnson, MJD, and Ray Rice were all under a 4 yard average. His pass blocking, other than one game, was the same as Moreno and Miller. We have no other young RB to give a chance to.
 
While I think DT gets unfairly criticized at times, he certainly deserves some. He's shown some flashes of being a solid #2 yet he rarely converts on 3rd and short or goal line opportunities which is unacceptable. It's frustrating to watch the team's "power" back fail to convert those situations. I'm cool with him being the #3 back.

He's had some bad breaks with the concussions and ankle sprains.

Pointless point. His average was the same a year ago, and take away all the short yardage carries, when he had no shot in hell as well. Next.

That's fair, and mostly agree. On short yardage, did you watch what he was up against? On almost all, his "blockers" were a yard or so behind the line when he got the ball.
