DT and TD's

Not that it matters much but, name players like Steven Jackson, Pierre Thomas, Chris Johnson, MJD, and Ray Rice were all under a 4 yard average. His pass blocking, other than one game, was the same as Moreno and Miller. We have no other young RB to give a chance to.
Other than CJ they all had disappointing seasons.

We signed UDFA Orleans Darkwa who may give Thomas a run for his money.

Because Daniel Thomas is average, even that is being generous.

Daniel Thomas had 6 runs of 10 or more yards in 2013...Ryan Tannehill had 9...Joe Flacco had 5.

Not one of Thomas's TD's were outside of the 5 yard line in 2013 edit: Daniel Thomas has only had 1 TD outside of the 5 yardline in his whole nfl CAREER...a 10 yeard reception in 2011, and with Lamar Miller as his competition for red zone carries it shouldn't be too hard to get a score here and there.

You can't tell me that Thomas was a big part of our team in 2013, if he wasn't here those 6 TD's would've found their way into someone elses hands, and if we actually upgraded from Thomas, we might have more than 6.

I wouldn't miss him at all. Best of luck to him in his career but I think he'll blend into the woodwork wherever he goes.

Have to say i'm tired of waiting for Thomas to put it together, I still hold out hope for the guy, some points:

He is miscast as a power back, he does not and has never run like a power back
He runs upright, this has contributed to his history of injuries,,, ties into the above point
He appears to run with poor vision, witness him running straight into the back of his blockers or directly into the only tackler in his way,,, too often

For some reason i have a soft spot for the guy and feel he can contribute. I am not sold on the fact that he has had the best coaching, this could be a large factor, I don't know. Jeff Nixon was another first time coach i believe when he was hired as the running backs coach,, http://www.miamidolphins.com/team/coaches/jeff-nixon/dce8535a-05fe-436c-a0e1-3246c11ee857 .Some of his best runs were his rookie season and i just don't think he has really improved,,, and i believe with good coaching he should have. I have little insight into the details of coaching at any level, all that being said he could just not be that good.

We need a viable running game to help this team win, i am hoping for the best out of all our backs and oline options.

DT better not see much of the field this year, that's all i know.

I'm a Daniel Thomas fan and even I will admit he's a very average running back. Give him the identical blocking against the same opponent and I don't think he would give you more production than Michael Bush or Delone Carter and they're both currently unemployed.

DT goes down way to easily on contact too many times, and can be brought down routinely with just an arm tackle.
If your a POWER back type, you cant have these 2 things happen to you constantly as he does!!
He is an average back at best....

So DT had the 2nd most TD's on a team that averaged what, 19 points a game? I'm sorry, i don't want to have a RB that needs perfect blocking for him to succeed. I want a playmaker.

How many of those TDs you are bringing up were off 10 + yard breaks? The majority of his scores (if not all of them) are well inside the 5 yard line. There is nothing impressive about his game.

Cleveland game...1 yard rush
Atlanta......5 yard rush
Pats...5 yard catch
Chargers...1 yard rush
Steelers... 4 yrd rush
Pats...2 yard catch

6 rushes of 10 yards or more all season
2 pass plays of 10 yrds or more all season

I wanted to sign Blount in FA, did not happen. I thought we would draft a RB around the 3rd round, did not happen. I believed either could have been an upgrade over DT. Maybe because Philbin likes DT if he could stay healthy, and said last year that he did not have the same openings that Miller did.

PFF had DT as bad in 2012, and much worse in 2011 but, last year was different in him getting what he could out of what was given. I did see him run harder and contribute more to the team. Remember that running right he had Jerry/Clabo, Jerry/Martin, and Jerry/Columbo. Hardly a recipe for success.

Not saying he is anywhere close to VG but, did improve last year, and I don't see any better options to replace him. JMO in liking Miller as #1, and DT possibly having a bigger impact than Moreno.

Yeah, some take shots at DT for not making first downs in short yardage, and now take shots at him for making TD's in short yardage. Go figure.
