DW & Rick's remains....

Five drafts and we have 5 whole starters...

35 players drafted in 5 years (not nearly enough) and we have 11 left...

I know I just repeated exactly what you said but I had to repeat it to make it sink in...

Wannstedt was such an idiot...I feel sorry for Pitt fans...they'll be sorry.

How many football programs must he wreck for people to realize that giving him the keys to the franchise is a recipe for disaster?

Being a failure as an NFL coach doesn't mean you will fail at the college level (Butch Davis, Spurrier). DW's personality may be an asset when coaching 18-22 year olds.

His personality might bode well for him in college...

His inability to adapt, coach up and scout properly will eventually be his undoing...it was in Chicago and Miami.

Wanny has a history of wrecking teams...this has been posted on multiple occasions and I know Wanny is gone but, it is a good read nonetheless...and a MUST read for Pitt Panther fans.

The destruction has already started at Pitt.

He acquired a 17th ranked team and lost to an unranked team in his first outing. The team is set up for a wide open passing attack. Wanny doesn't pass...........

The one thing that speaks well of Spielman is that he drafted 3 players in one year who were slated to start in 2005 (Carey, Poole, Hadnot).

Then again, that's not saying much when you look the talent Wanny acquired for the team. Then ol' Spielnut gave away a second rounder for our 3rd string QB and a 3rd for a player not even on the roster the following year.....

For Spielman, it looks as if he is indeed a good college scout and nothing more.......

I remember when Wanny was hired...and I was not happy about it. His being part of the most disgusting job of quitting I have ever witnessed, and the favorite twink of "Buttercup boy" had me screaming to the walls Nooooooo! At this time, a bunch of Bears fans showed up and told us what we were in for...they were absolutly correct. A waste of more than four years as it will take some time to recover. I really feel sorry for Danny and the Pitt Panthers. I hope Dan holds a long term grudge for the disrespect shown to him by Pitt for hiring this guy.

Of course that unranked team was coached by Charlie Weis. Im sure that was one of the reasons Weis took the Notre Dame job....he got to kick Wanny's a$$ again in his first season.

That's the point..... One coach got his players ready. The other didn't.

Pitt has 18 players returning from a FIESTA BOWL appearance!!!

The Panthers (0-1) certainly didn't expect all this, not with 18 starters back from the first team to win at Notre Dame in 19 seasons and most of its famous alumni - Tony Dorsett, Dan Marino, Mike Ditka - gathered to celebrate Wannstedt's return as head coach.

With a Top 25 ranking, a schedule filled with winnable games and polished playmaker Tyler Palko at quarterback, Pitt expected a big start to an excellent season. Instead, it was a huge letdown, with a sold-out Heinz Field half-empty before the end of the third quarter. Some of those 66,451 fans leaving early could be heard wondering if Pitt was so wise to jettison former head coach Walt Harris, an accomplished offensive coach, after five consecutive bowl seasons.

All I could say now is, poor Wanny, you guys have cursed him so bad that he sucks now even in college. Let it go guys, let go of the grudge and we might all be in a better place in the nfl instead of barring wanny's ghost which isn't even allowing him to function normal after he quit like a sissy.

I'm Sorry, but watching that game last night i just couldn't help laughing. The classic Wannstedt moments of him pulling his hair and tweaking his mustache and looking like he wants to kill himself as his 23rd ranked Pitt team got destroyed in every way by a virtually unknown Notredame team, who wasn't ranked, IN Pittsburgh no less. It was just hilarious. Your right about Pittsburgh, the destruction has begun. Wanny has no idea how to utilize a passing offense i agree. I just am salivating to see this team burn.....

Just to break it down farther:

Wanny drafted 29 players. 7 remain on the team. 4 start (Bell, Chambers, McMichael, McKinney).

Spielman drafted 6 players. 4 remain on the team. 2 start (Carey, Hadnot), and 1 more would likely be starting but for a season ending injury (Poole).

This makes it darn clear that Rick ran a pretty good draft no matter what you think of his trades while Wanny was just frankly lost there.
