After being "called out" by Stan Van the other day... Dwight Howard responded...

23 points
24 rebounds

And he was facing the NBA's 2nd leading rebounder... Camby... who was held to only 8 rebounds.

Howard dominated the guy that is closest to him in rebounds... and dominated the paint all night.

He is the most dominant force in the NBA... and he is just scratching the surface of his potential.

No love for Dwight?

I think he gets enough love around the league.

Still prefer Duncan & K.G.

For the time being, yes. However they aren't playing the same position so its kind of a moot point. But I get what you mean. Howard is probably the closest thing to Shaq in his prime. Just a big, strong, athletic big man who gets it done in all aspects of his game.

I liked what the Lakers did to him the other night though. Go at him. He is so competitive that he can't help but try to defend everything in the lane. It got him into foul trouble and got him on the bench for a good long stretch. That is how you play him. Take the charge and charge at him.

I honestly think Howard will be better than both of them when it's all said and done. And I know that's saying a lot but I love Howard's game.

Ya? I mean, he gets some love... but not near as much as he should IMO.

And you prefer 2 Power Forwards over a Center? Hell, I would prefer Kobe over him too. They dont play the same position?

What Center would you prefer over Howard? None...

He is the most dominant player at his position... and the most dominant force in the league...

And in terms of Duncan and KG... both are already at their peaks or on the decline... where as Howard is just scratching the surface of his potential. He will easily pass them within a year if you want to include them in the discussion...

Agreed...

But he will have to a better supporting cast around him to match Duncan's rings...

Whoa there. Better than Duncan? He has 4 rings and a young Duncan did the little things a lot better than Dwight does IMO.

Dwight has a ways to go. He isn't a go to guy down the stretch yet, and his hands aren't that great. No doubt he will be great, but one of the all timers? I think that is still up for debate.

Oh, it absolutly is...

It remains to be seen how good he can be. But if Dwight continues to make the strides from year to year that he has made in his first 3 years... there is no question he will be one of the better Centers to play the game.

He certainly has the talent.

And keep in mind... a "young" Duncan is much older than Dwight... as Dwight came out of high school... and Duncan graduated college before going to the NBA...

double bump!

hard to match duncan, but duncan has had great players by his side. Wonder what would have happened had duncan had to do it all himself

You got to love this kid's character too...

He could have shut it down and pouted after being called out. But instead, he responded positively and stepped up his game.

Hes a great kid... and impossible to not like...

Did I mention that he had 9 offensive rebounds that game?

"How do ya like me now, Stan Van!!!" lol

My son and I ran into him in a shoe store in a mall his rookie year.
Super nice guy shook our hands. What a freaking grip.

True. The situation actually speaks favorably of both men. Van Gundy for not being afraid to do what he needed to do, and as you said, Howard for not pouting and responding. Orlando is in good hands. Now if they only can get a point guard.

They need a power forward more than anything. Right now, they are playing with 2 SF's with Turk and Lewis...

They need a 4... to help with defense and rebounding...
