Writing about a January 31 memo that the NFL sent out to all teams reminding them about the anti-tampering rules, Peter King poses the following:
"And, by the way, how did I know the Eagles would be the leaders in the clubhouse for Asante, including details about the money in the deal, nine days ago? "
We've got to stop pretending this doesn't exist, and the league has to stop selectively enforcing some rules and not others. If there's an anti-tampering rule, the NFL must enforce it the way it enforces other rules.

Where is the outrage? Where is Arlen Specter? Where is the congressional investigation???

....Huh??...what??..who??..that's different. It's not GAME SPECIFIC
you know.....???
All BS aside, that kills me. Tampering within the league is apparently rampant and it's ignored. I think it's a pretty safe bet that Parcells contacted Smiley's agent before FA began, as well. On the other hand, I think the NFL does enforce that rule in the same way it enforces the other rules. In other words anything goes, unless someone from within (or a politician) makes a big issue of it.

Tampering is not taping, but it is a serious issue, and if the Eagles got caught they'll be punished.

C'mon get real. Tampering happens every year.....and alot! DO you really believe that the league isn't aware of it? How was it that Parcells was able to get Smiley signed so quickly after FA started.? It wasn't just Parcells, either. There were several teams who were able to get contracts signed right away. Does anyone really think that Pace was just playing hard to get? No, Pace didn't have an agreement with anyone ahead of time. He took the time to weigh his options. So it took a few days.
You're right tampering isn't taping. Taking steroids isn't taping, either. Neither is circumventing the salary cap. However, they are all ways of gaining a competitive advantage contrary to league rules.

So you don't see there are different levels of misconduct? A misdemeanor is a felony now? Interesting........

Again, the fact that others cheat is not an excuse to not punish the patriots.

It's not an excuse, I totally agree. But cheating is still cheating. The "everybody does it" excuse is not allowed for the Patriots with the taping (which many people do believe) so why is it allowed for tampering? Because until someone makes a big deal about it (IE, The Jets in the first game that started spygate) and there's obvious evidence, nothing will come of it.

Now I do agree "everybody does it" isn't a reason to not punish the Patriots, they deserved to get punished and punished they did. But "everybody does it" IS a reason to say "okay, get over it already" in regards to ignorant statements like the Pats losing their championships.

You don't see John Kerry or Ted Kennedy getting involved.

Which I think was his main point.

I wouldnt compare tampering witn Steroid use or taping signals though.

This is absolutley comical to me

Anybody that brings Teddy Kennedy into an arguement based on ethics, integrity and wrong-doings loses all respect, and any arguement they had going into the fight was immediately disolved by the thunderous laughter it was met with...

Absolutely unbelieveable.:sidelol::sidelol::sidelol:

I was going to start a similar thread with the title "Just because FA has started doesn't mean you're off the hook Cheaters!!!" ...I decided against it at the last minute.

Tampering with FA's before they become FA's would indeed allow a team to get a competitive advantage, just as stealing signals is. Wasn't that Single bullet Specters main battle cry..Fair and honest games? And the funniest part is he was mainly concerned with weather or not the patriots cheated against the eagles in the SB in fact I read a copy of his original letter to the commisioner and that was the only team and game he asked about.
Now when his Eagles are cheating his lips are sealed tighter than a ducks pooper...Guess we'll have to change his name to double standards Specter.

The point of this post was to point out that there are many ways to illegally attain that competitive advantage other than stealing signals and the commisioner knows this stuff goes on regularly within the league. Seeing as Peter King no less, a writer for SI got this information there doesn't seem to be any cover up that this is being done even after the league sent out one of their famous memo's. Everyone called Belichick arrogant for ignoring a league memo didn't they? Does the league really give a hoot or perhaps they just can't add or subtract days like they can dollars. By the looks of it they don't care very much or they would be fining teams. Its the don't ask don't tell policy once again.

The great Senator Specter was after fair and honest games and this type of thing falls under that same catagory. Hem and haw, split hairs or paint the canvas any way you want its still prohibited by league rules and it could create an unfair advantage..i.e. its cheating. Why try and make it a fuzzy picture when it's clealy a black and white issue?

Awww so you are on a quest for truth and justice? My mistake.
If you did not want the picture to be fuzzy you would stop these posts trying to prove that others have also cheated and instead just accept whatever punishment comes towards your team IMO. That would be black and white, you did wrong, you accept the punishment. But instead you try to blur the picture in hopes the patriots do not stand out.
