The Dolphins envision new defensive tackle Earl Mitchell as an every down player. He received an identical four-year, $16 million offer from San Diego but liked Miami’s defensive system better

Hey Hayden, Mitchell chose Philbin's team over McCoy's team. ;)

Other Buzz:
The Dolphins, who hope to sign guard Shelley Smith after his visit today, still had $35.6 million in cap space as of 1 p.m. If they choose to sign cornerback Cortland Finnegan, who also is visiting, the negotiations will be with the player himself, because he has no agent.
Free agent right tackle Zach Strief declined an offer to visit the Dolphins, with no explanation given.
In exchange for Jonathan Martin, the Dolphins will get a seventh-rounder in the 2015 draft, but only if he’s on the 49ers opening day roster. Though Stephen Ross repeatedly said he planned to meet with Martin, they never did, according to the Martin camp. No Dolphins official called Martin directly when the trade was made, though that's not unusual.
Though New England-bound Darrell Revis has a home in South Florida and likes the Dolphins, he wanted to play on a short contract with a Super Bowl contender. So Miami wasn’t a serious contender, despite an inquiry.

For Mitchell it came down to either playing in a 3-4 or 4-3 defense. The 4-3 fits his style of play better so it really was a no-brainer decision.

How could this be true ? People said no one would want to play here after last year.
i guess $$$ and sunshine trumps negative press every time.

Doomed....team is doomed...

we will see if he's an every down dt...i'm sure starks and odrick will have a lot to say about that

$35.6 mil left and only one oline addition...crazy...to have all that money left they must have really backloaded the cap hits on those other guys contracts...

Starting to like my Dline. Am pleased.

and good lord has streif given the team the cold shoulder...roll most that cap to next year now...we've pretty much missed our window on impact players now...a few exceptions

I'm ok with the money left, don't spend it on guys that don't fit the system, we will have opportunities to sign some big names later this summer after the draft and once teams cut to 53 man rosters IMO and having money to make moves will be essential.... one thing about Ross is he is not afraid to spend money hopefully Hickey doesn't spend it like a drunken sailor....

earl mitchells contract numbers do not say every down dt...they reflect more a rotational guy...and at his size thats probably a good thing

I,m also going to point this out (and players know this), but Miami has a pretty damn good d-line coach...with everything involved, players like working with good coaches...

With all this money left would you be incline for a "luxury" signing like Jame Jones, Owen Daniels or DRC? just asking.
