Earl Mitchell has been nothing but a liability to the Miami Dolphins defense. In his career, Mitchell has never been more than a part-time player. This is a proof that the coaching staff has no clue, they prefer the small and quick in the middle to the big and stout run stuffing DTs of the world. Thats Kevin Coyle defense for you. Did you notice Miami's front 4 were getting pushed back four yrds before the ball was even handled off to the rbs. Unbelievable !! why because we signed a guy who was a 3-4 DE to be a 4-3 DT....mismatch. Mitchell ended up starting just four games last year, but he's starting next to Ndamukong Suh this year. For a team with a very weak linebacking corps this is a no-no. Make no mistake; he's not in any danger of being cut. His contract—a four year $16million pact that gave him $5 million guaranteed—makes cutting him cost prohibitive.
Anyone lining up next to Suh should be a fairly productive player, right not Mitchell. Suh's teammates should see a good deal of one-on-one blocking assignments as a result of Suh's sheer dominance, yeah but not Michell he can not get off blocks. Fede last night did better getting off blocks. Unless Miami coaches make change things will continue to go downhill from here.
