Earl Mitchell has been nothing but a liability to the Miami Dolphins defense. In his career, Mitchell has never been more than a part-time player. This is a proof that the coaching staff has no clue, they prefer the small and quick in the middle to the big and stout run stuffing DTs of the world. Thats Kevin Coyle defense for you. Did you notice Miami's front 4 were getting pushed back four yrds before the ball was even handled off to the rbs. Unbelievable !! why because we signed a guy who was a 3-4 DE to be a 4-3 DT....mismatch. Mitchell ended up starting just four games last year, but he's starting next to Ndamukong Suh this year. For a team with a very weak linebacking corps this is a no-no. Make no mistake; he's not in any danger of being cut. His contract—a four year $16million pact that gave him $5 million guaranteed—makes cutting him cost prohibitive.

Anyone lining up next to Suh should be a fairly productive player, right not Mitchell. Suh's teammates should see a good deal of one-on-one blocking assignments as a result of Suh's sheer dominance, yeah but not Michell he can not get off blocks. Fede last night did better getting off blocks. Unless Miami coaches make change things will continue to go downhill from here.

I've been waiting for this thread....He is bad....Can't even fathom why Mosely and Phillips aren't starting/playing over him....Although he did nail Richie with a good left.

Lol I suggested trading him for a G in the offseason and I was told Mitchell was too valuable to trade

Worst we "inactivated" Phillips. I still can't believe that for this game..unbelievable!

Mitchell was good while he was a Texan and performed pretty well for most of the year last year. No one on our defense played well during those final 6 games, but for the first 10, he showed value.

He hasn't been horrible this season. He's been about as bad as the rest of the DL. The people who think he is the specific problem with this defense probably also expected us to win 10+ games this season (there were A LOT of you).

I still don't understand how is it possible that we STILL can't set the edge? Especially if we know most of the runs are coming that way or away from Suh.

Mitchell was not much more than an average player when we signed him so not sure why our coaches are so enamored with him.

Because Wake and Vernon can't get off blocks and they're both getting engulfed when runs come their way.

What the hell are the LBs and DBs(Never man the DBs are giving 20 yards cushions on 3rd and 5)...
Then why no switch to like a 5-2(Suh, Mitch, Phil and the two ends) (Misi/Jens) or something?

Agree! actually to fix the DL my solution would be trying Suh as a DE in the place of Wake, Then have Mosley DT next to Suh and rotate Phillips and Mitchell on the other DT spot and give Fede every chance that would be a promissing DL Suh-Mosley-Phillips-Fede with Shelby and Mitchell rotating. Wake has nothing left on the tank and he was bad against the run since a couple of years.

Wait?!?

You wanna move Suh outside?

It's funny how lots of players perform better when they're playing in other teams, but then they come to Miami aaaaaaaand...disappointment. It's almost like our coaching staff is the problem.

Because Philbin is an idiot. The only guy that has a sack and we sit him. Wouldn't want the rookies to make a mistake that could cost us the game. Parker should be starting, too.

cause Mosely hasnt done anything himself besides being tremendously worse than anyone else on that line!!! he has been simply awful.
