With him declaring for the draft, how would you guys feel if we drafted him #12 to replace Gibril? We need a ballhawk in the secondary and he is just that.

Go into next season with Allen/Davis at CB and Bell/Thomas at safety.

Assuming we don't trade up to get Berry.

i like him he has good range for a safety but i would not take him at no.12 if we do like him and want him/ dez bryant is gone.

i wouldnt mind trading back like a couple spots and get him and get another draft pick.

#12 is too high to pick the second best safety.

really dont think Sparano would be admitting he was wrong for signing Gibril to that rediculous contract, and asking Ross for another $10-12M in guarantees to draft the same position.

One of the big problems I have with this FO is they don't cut their losses. How long did it take for them to cut Ernest Wilford? How long did it take for them to take Ted "Downy" Ginn out of the starting rotation and give Hartline a shot?

From past performance I expect them to keep Wilson one more year and try to redeem him. We'll probably draft another safety but it'll be later 3rd-6th rounds I feel.

According to a conversation Gil Brandt (close friend of Parcells) had on the radio, he said that when MIA signed Wilson it was to replace Bell at SS. He said that Bell basically signed a one year deal that included a $14mil roster bonus due in 2010 (which obviously forces the the two sides to renegociate deal after 2009 season) and that Wilson (who was our second leading tackler this year) who is younger than Bell and is better suited for SS than FS, basically signed a long term deal to be Bell's eventual replacement at SS.

I believe that they drafted Clemons to be groomed behind Wilson as the eventual starting FS, so I definitely would NOT draft Thomas, especially not at #12. In fact, with the improvement this year by Jason Allen, and him already having experience at FS both in college and in the pros (where he led the team in INTS a few years ago) they can basically move Jason Allen back to FS (where he seems better suited for) to compete with Clemons and the winner starts/loser is the backup and plays STs (which Jason Allen excels at).

I don't believe MIA has to do anything personel-wise to the Safety spot. If Bell renegociates deal, he battles it out with Wilson for the starting/backup SS spot. If Bell does NOT renegociate deal (which after the impressive season he had and the fact that there will not be much competition in the FA market, I believe Bell will NOT renegociate and can make big bucks elsewhere...while Parcells covered his tracks by signing Wilson for)...then Wilson starts at SS and Culver stays the backup.

I think Safety spot can eventually look something like this in 2010:

FS: Jason Allen/Chris Clemons or Chris Clemons/Jason Allen
SS: either Yeremiah Bell/Gibril Wilson or Gibril Wilson/Tyrone Culver

And even if they like Jason Allen at backup CB/STs ace (and feel that Clemons is going to be the starter at FS regardless)...they still would really only need to draft a late round FS to be Clemons backup and keep Allen as the dimeback.
Leave the draft picks for the LINEBACKING CORPS!!!!

so your telling me Bells 3 yr deal counts as 1 yr? lmao how the hell does that work plz explain

Tony Sparano didn't sign Gibril Wilson.. so he wouldnt really need to admit to anything..

Ireland and/or Parcells are the people in charge of that department, you would be looking at them in this case..

Earl Thomas is a future stud. He's a poor man's Eric Berry... He has sky-high potential (still a little raw but that's why there's Training Camp) and will come at a much cheaper price. I would LOVE to get Thomas. Face it, McClain will last to Denver at the WORST. Bryant is the best receiver in the draft; he's not going to make it. Just trade back, get a 2nd, and take Earl Thomas, and trade up to get Jermaine Gresham.

it could be god himself in Ireland and/or Parcells shoes, but as far as the media, the fans, and the entire pubblic outlooks,Sparano is the one that will be praised, aswell as taking one for the team, and stepping on the land-mine.

Its just...the way it goes,man....

So the FO really has that much confidence in Jason Allen? And what's this about Bell's deal? He signed a 4 year deal but only counts as 1?

Earl Thomas, IMO, is worthy of the 12th pick. He's a fabulous player and just a very, very small notch lower than Eric Berry. For me, he's better in coverage than Berry, he can play corner, is terrifically fast, great instincts, can play strong and free safety as well as corner. Played all 27 games at Texas, team captain as a freshman, had more deflected passes this year than any corner or safety in all of college football which speaks volumes for his range and off the field is just a brilliant kid. He's Eric Berry on the field and Myron Rolle off it.

He and Berry, Polamalu and Reed are the best safeties to enter the league in 10/12 years.

i think he's a good enough player but i think that size may have him falling into the 2nd half of round 1...

unless he's bigger than he looks at the combine

Yeah size may be an issue, but essentially he's listed as 1 inch and 5lbs less than Eric Berry.

I know listed heights/weights are a joke and he looks pretty slight, but he's not been injured and he hits hard - just ask Trent Richardson!

i personally think he needs to get stronger and gain 5 pounds or so...i don't see an eric berry type hitter

but he's very willing...there's plenty of fight in that dog

from what i've seen i might even lean your way in that he may actually be slightly better than eric berry in coverage...
