It's interesting that some people feel the first few weeks of the season don't really matter much. When I see everyone giving up on the season (as they likely should) I think back to all the posts about how it is just week 1, or just the preseason, or quotes in week five like "as the Dolphins try to salvage their season". Ya it's important to come out of the gates strong. It would be cool in 2017 to see people think there is nothing more important than a win in week 1. OK Miami, it's week five, go stop the run..... and stop making Cameron Wake so predictable. Get it together already.

Unless you thought we were making the playoffs this year, week 1 through 8 this year really dont matter at all nevermind the first 4 weeks that included 3 road games against playoffs teams 2 of which were SB contenders and the other one on a short week... I mean as much as everyone wants to beleive you can will your way through better teams just like in the movies, reality is 3 of those teams were flat out better than we are and we lost accordingly, on the road, with a new coaching staff and different system from last year minus special teams...

This was expected... deal with it!

It's not that they don't matter. They just aren't the best representation of the team yet.

Never once have I assumed the first weeks of the season don't matter. They make or break the whole year.

Coming out of the gate strong would have been wonderful. With a new system on both sides of the ball combined with playing road games against superior teams it wasn't expected. Our record is a very clear barometer of where we are at the moment. We are a team that required a missed field goal by Cleveland to defeat them by the skin of our teeth. We very nearly pulled defeat out of the jaws of victory against the Browns. We opened as a 3 point favorite against Tennessee at home. That means it's basically a pick-em game. As bad as we have been stopping the run it's reasonable to conclude that Derrick Henry will go for 125 yards. As bad as we've been running it's equally reasonable to predict that we will go for about 80. That will put pressure on Tannehill and the passing game and we have not seen anything that would make anybody feel comfortable about the passing game clicking. They have yet to click in any meaningful way. I hope that in the last week and a half Gase has found some answers that lead to us looking like a quality offense. We need to settle on a 2 back system and go with it. This team has yet to come out in the 1st quarter of a game and play winning Football. I'm sick and tired of our 1st quarter woes. What the hell is wrong. This was a big problem under Philbin and remains a bad problem. If we want to turn things around we need to open the game like a good team. By that I mean win the toss, take the ball, like Shula used to, go and score a TD in a convincing way. After that the D has to finally get in sync with the O and get a stop or a turnover!!! SET THE TONE and keep our foot on their throats! Until this team, under Gase, does that I will have no reason to hope that they will. I am sick to death of watching this team suck in game after game. I don't have the answer but some of the questions are, do we have to be patient and let Gase right the ship, do we simply not have the talent to compete, will Tannehill keep dragging this team into the toilet, was Gase an awful choice, will Tannenbaum ruin this team and on and on. If we turn this around the questions stop. As of now we have nothing but questions like, why do we suck on both sides of the ball, why are the players so stupid regarding basic assignments and penalties and on and on. We have to wake the hell up and play winning Football starting tomorrow at home against a team we are favored to beat. If we let the Titans kick our butts tomorrow we are Cleveland. As of this moment I have no reason to believe they will win the game. As a fan I'm praying that tomorrow is the day we turn our season around. See you guys at 1pm.

Saw a graphic a few weeks ago about teams that start 0 -2
Historically speaking they only make playoffs like 20% of the time so imagine how hard it is at 1-3 or 2 - 4 ?

For the record the thread was not so much about Miami being bad during the first weeks of the season, but rather posters that say things like "it's just week one relax", or "the preseason doesn't matter".
Just making the connection to posts after week 4 about the season being over and who we should draft. I can only assume it is different posters.

They do matter, but when you look at that opening stretch we got stuck with, I think it is reasonable to say "Just get your feet under you and improve and then start winning some games to get respectable again."

Not that it matters, I think the real takeaway here is that we just aren't very good.
