The 1972 Dolphins went undefeated and won a Super Bowl, the Colts have to make it through 3 good teams after the regular season.

actually you could say 16-0 is a perfect season but yes they should have to run the table undefeated to really be called undefeated

well, if Indy loses in the playoffs no one will remember the 16-0 season.

I hope you're right, but everyone is acting like "nobody on their remaining schedule can stop them" but San Diego (Conference Championship) could and whoever they meet in the SB will have a good shot too.

And they will do so. They will have home field advantage throughout the playoffs and will not be beaten at home in their dome with the cozy temperatures. Simply put...Manning can not be stopped unless they suffer some major injuries or they have some real bad weather. There will be no bad weather so it's got to be injuries. When they run that hurry up offense early in the game it's just brutal on the other teams defense and their tired as hell as the game wears on. If you haven't been watching their games and are just seeing highlights on ESPN then you're not seeing the whole picture. Their offense is getting better every single game as the season wears on and Manning is a master at moving the chains and keeping his defense off the field and rested. I'm not saying they can't be beat given certain circumstances but like I said before. Barring injuries they are set up nicely to make a run at the title and an undefeated season.

PS. Why start another thread for this?

the colts are just a flat out different team in the playoffs. they could lose their first game in the postseason. it doesn't matter how they play.

Yeah, but this is overlooking one thing: they theoretically have a MUCH higher chance of losing a regular season game than a playoff game. Not only are there six games remaining in the season to three in the playoffs, but once you get to the playoffs they will obviously be at home and motivated throughout.

Once they get to the playoffs I can't see Indy being favored by less than 7 against anyone. The first home game figures double digits against a team that just played a week earlier. Obviously if it's New England the line will be lower due to respect, but probably artificially low. The AFC while superior to the NFC doesn't exactly have a monster lineup. We saw ourselves that Denver can be had and Indy owns them at home in the playoffs. Then you're looking at the NFC mush in the Super Bowl.

Let's say Indy is favored by 11, 8 and 7 in the playoffs. That's fairly conservative and basically a theoretical chance of -4.50, -3.20 and -2.80. Those are estimates of money line values, -4.50 meaning 4.5 chances to win for 1 to lose. With those conservative numbers Indy would be a slight underdog to win all 3, about 5 chances in 11. So basically even money. In reality, if they go 16-0 the pointspreads and the money lines will soar with the feeling of invincibility and inevitability. Indy will be something like 3/5 to win the Super Bowl in future odds at that point.

So we better root in the regular season. Indy already got rid of a small favorite role at New England and a -5.5 situation today so that doubled the chance of an unbeaten season simply via those two wins. Too many fans tend to think it goes down from 40/1 to 35/1 to 30/1, etc. incrementally but that's simply not the case. I tried to emphasize before the game at the Patriots that it's not a matter of looking at future mine fields. The odds are somewhat calculable and would be sliced by huge margin with just a couple of hurdles cleared.

what's the big deal? if they do it, it's a huge acomplishment adn they deserve their praise. if they don't, well they didn't do it. personally, i don't think they'll make it, but it will be fun to watch them try.

PLEASE LORD ABOVE...We need someone to go 'undefeated', so's we can get this Kong-sized curse off our team!!! The 'phins have been considerably de-feated since going "un"...and me be very sick of dat.

If the colts go to 18-0, which would put them in the Super Bowl, then win or lose, the media will consider that a bigger accomplishment then the 72 Dolphins, as ridiculous as it may sound.

They won a super bowl the year after and have gone to 2 other Super Bowls. I doubt the troubles with this team have anything to do with it's history of winning. I certainly would'nt consider that history of winning as a curse.

Just when I think it can't get any more pathetic, the posts keep coming.

take into consideration that as soon as they lock up home field you can count on the whole second team being on the field. I think that the colts are smart enough to realize that keeping all thier starters healthy is more important than a 33 year old record.
