Per Armando's tweets, we worked out WR Edward Williams, a guy who used to be on the Ravens practice squad. Can't be that great, but he's got size (6'4" 215). We also apparently worked out another WR, who as of yet is unidentified.

Anyone know anything on this Williams character? He played college ball at Lane...

Never heard of him. Honestly, he probably sucks. But it doesn't hurt to try him out.

Probably looking to cut Marion and replace him with another developmental guy.

This is from last April when he signed with Tennessee as an UDFA:

The 6’4, 206 lb pro-to-type receiver has been compared to Muhsin Muhammad of the Carolina Panthers and Chicago Bears for his big frame, speed and ability to catch the ball in small spaces. Williams will vie to be one of the weapons of Titans QB Vince Young and will compete for the slot receiver spot, transition to an H-Back or possibly see time at tight end. Other teams that sought Williams’s services include the Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, Atlanta Falcons and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Edward Williams was 6'3 5/8" 213 pounds at the Scouting Combine in 2008. He ran a 4.52 in the 40 yard dash. He was born 11/24/82. Pro Football Weekly said about Williams:

Has good body length with very long arms. Smart and responded well to coaching at the Texas vs. Nation all-star game practices. Gets into his routes quickly and uses hands well to fight off the jam. Sells his routes well with leans and nods. Fights for the ball in a crowd. Shows strength after the catch. Has upside. He has to work on the fact that he gears down to make his cuts and needs to work on getting back to the ball. Lacks great vertical speed and does not have top end burst to separate. Faced marginal competition and is an average blocker. Is most effective working underneath where he shows the toughness to make catches across the middle. Has the intelligence and upside worth developing.

Is what we have in Training Camp......suddenly not enough? I mean, we picked wr with our 3rd and 4th pick, which could have been utilized for some LB or OL depth...I dunno, it might be worth the tryout, but its still puzzling...

I think they're looking for a replacement for Marion - a developmental guy for the practice squad.

If he's signed hes destined for the Practice Squad.
