Eli Manning Could Become The NFL’s Highest-Paid Player
Posted by Aaron Wilson on June 19, 2009, 12:42 p.m. EDT
Although no new deal is imminent between the New York Giants and quarterback Eli Manning, it looks like the Super Bowl XLII Most Valuable Player is going to break the bank whenever negotiations are ultimately completed.

According to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, Manning’s representatives “want to make him the highest-paid player” in the NFL as he enters the final year of his contract.

Citing a source, Vacchiano reports that Manning is looking for an annual average compensation of $20 million.

Per the report, the total package could wind up being a seven- or eight-year term of service with a maximum value of $110 million to $120 million with $40 million of that figure guaranteed.

What a tough spot for the Giants. As much as I think he is overrated....there is no way that they can let him walk either. But highest paid player in the league?? Crazy.

I would almost let him walk for that price... its just too hard to find a QB that you can trust you always want to keep the ones you get.

There's no way they let him go, I hope he ruins their cap.

He does have a SB MVP award(though he didn't deserve it).

Well when unproven rookies are getting huge dollars this is what happens.

That's crazy. I don't see how Eli Manning can possibly be worth that sort of money. Potentially the highest paid player in the league? That's just insane. I don't even know if he's one of the top ten QBs in the league.

Sucks for Giant fans if true. I know quite a few Giant's fans, and not one of them think Eli is that good a QB.

Meh, i don't know about not "deserving" it. It probably should have gone to the Giants entire defense, especially Justin Tuck. But Manning played excellent football, and statistically his only interception was on a tipped pass by his own WR.

Now i'm not sure i'd merit giving any player 20 million a season in the NFL. Let alone Eli Manning.

He played the best football of his career in that postseason, he was alot better than his overrated brother was in the '06 playoffs but there were multiple Giant defenders more worthy of that award.

Tough call for the Giants. I mean he showed in that entire post-season SB run that when he is on form he is a very good QB. But Eli's problem has always been consistancy. Burress going down last season was a huge blow for Manning and the Giants made a great decision drafting Nicks and Barden to give Manning big targets to throw to.

I think the Giants should wait till the season begins before rushing in on tieing him down, especially with the money he is looking for.
