Hello all! I've seen a lot of mock drafts, both on Finheaven and in the draft guides. Some of them I liked a lot and others left me wanting more. So I present to you my mock draft. This isn't exactly the way I see the Trifecta making the selections, but the way I'd like to see it unfold. Nothing earth-shattering, but enjoy and here's to a productive draft day later this month! WOO HOO!!!

1st Round (25) - Sean Smith, CB, Utah - I really believe that Smith can be a top corner in this league with some time. He has the size to handle the bigger receivers, who absolutely KILLED us the last several years. If we don't pick Smith here, he won't last past the end of the 1st round or very early 2nd round. Second choice here would be Darius Butler, CB, UConn, another good player.

2nd Round (44) - Ron Brace, NT, Boston College - Reminds me a bit of former Dolphin Larry Chester. Will never lead the Dolphins in sacks, but one of the best nose tackle prospects in the draft and and we need a true NT with Fergie getting long in the tooth and Soliai seemingly having his head in the clouds.

2nd Round (56) - Sherrod Martin, CB, Troy - The Dolphins continue to reload the secondary with big corners. Martin has good size (6'0 and 197 lbs.) and has good speed and fluid hips. I would feel VERY good about the Dolphins secondary with the additions of Smith/Butler and Martin.

3rd Round (87) -David Veikune, OLB/DE, Hawaii - With the 2nd tier of top Rush OLBs off the board (Connor Barwin, Larry English, Cody Brown, etc.), the Dolphins turn to the very versatile Veikune, who can line up all over the field. Has a good motor and can rush the passer. Would be a good understudy for Joey Porter.

4th Round (108) - T.J. Lang, OT/G, Eastern Michigan - Here is a guy I think Tony Sporano might just fall in love with. He plays with a mean streak and has good upper body strength. Plus his versatility to play tackle or guard makes him at the very least a valuable backup.

5th Round (161) - Edwin Williams, C, Maryland - Miami continues to add depth to the offensive line and adds a good prospect who can back up Jake Grove.

6th Round (181) - Brandon Tate, WR, North Carolina - Here's where Miami takes a chance. I think Tate's serious injury could cause him to fall this far. Tate was the star of the Tarheels' WR corps before tearing both his acl and mcl against Notre Dame last season. If he checks out with Miami's medical staff, he could be a steal.

7th Round (214) - Jorvorskie Lane, FB, Texas A&M - Although he was more of a battering ram in college, Lane has a lot to learn about being a FB in the pros. His conditioning and work ethic will have to improve if he is to make it in the NFL. But if he gets it together, he could emerge as a Pete Johnson-type bulldozer in goal line situations.

7th Round (237) - Stephen Hodge, OLB, TCU - A project. Hodge played safety in college but led the nation in sacks by a defensive back. Could be another special teams demon while he learns the position.

Would have liked to have seen a ILB in there. Also can not see us going two CB's in the first three picks. But other than that its a pretty solid mock.

I'm not big on Jorvorskie Lane at all but I like Brandon Tate. I'm just not sure what his value is.

I like Tate as well and agree I'm not sure where he'll be drafted. He could go anywhere from the late 3rd all the way to the 7th possibly.

I really struggled with adding an ILB. Almost put McKillop from Pitt as our pick in the 4th round. While we might not go corner with two out of the first three picks, it certainly would shore up the secondary.

Not too bad.

Speaking of Hawaii guys...what do you guys think of Adam Leonard?

Didn't know too much about him until you mentioned him and I did some research. He looks like a good guy to have on the team NFLDRAFTSCOUT.com has him rated as a priority free agent. Who knows...maybe this year's defensive version of Davone Bess??!!

I have to be honest, I don't like this mock at all. The only guy I like in this mock is Brandon Tate in the 6th round. Everyone else you have slotted earlier then they need.

I am also not a big fan of Sean Smith. He reminds me of Mike Rumph who the 49ers drafted 6-7 years ago and was a complete bust. Tall corners usually don't make it in the NFL (with the exception of Dominquie Rogers-Cromartie) because they don't have the hips to make those quick twitch moves. Darius Butler and Alphonso Smith are both superior players over Sean Smith IMO.

No OLB until the 4th? No thanks. Sean Smith will be a safety, not a CB, so again, no thanks. With so many teams needing a 3-4 NT, Brace wont last until 44. 2 CB's within the 1st 3 picks will not happen. We can have all the CB's in the world, wont matter though because we still don't have an OLB opposite Porter. Sure there's Wake, but who knows if he will pan out, not to mention Porter is getting up there as well, and we need to draft his eventual replacement, because Roth and Anderson wont be replacing Porter.

I've watched a lot of tape on Sean Smith and the kid flat out impresses me. I don't see the Mike Rumph comparison at all. Smith reminds me more of Bobby Taylor, who was 6'3 and 215 lbs. When he came out in 1995, a lot of the "experts" were saying things like "he's too tall to play corner...is he a corner or a safety??". Taylor went on to team with Troy Vincent to become one of the best corner tandems in the mid to late 1990s.

I do like Darius Butler as well. I would be happy with either Smith or Butler (which I said in my original post). Alphonso Smith would be a poor choice at #25. He simply doesn't have the size and strength to cover the big receivers that killed this team last year, and believe me, opposing teams WILL pick on him unmercifully. Hard working kid, but I see him as a bust.

Remember when teams spread us out in the shotgun last year and used a lot of quick passes to negate our pass rush? Our secondary was exposed and we lost one of our best corners in Goodman. You really think Eric Green is the upgrade we need? We will take two corners later this month.

And please don't play Nostradamus and try to say who will be there and who won't. You're right...the 3-4 is really in vogue with teams like Kansas City and Denver switching over. But to say a player won't be there is just stupid. You (not you personally) don't know who the hell will be there. All it takes are a couple of curveballs early on and anything could happen.

You mentioned Joey Porter (and I agree we need to draft someone who can be his understudy)...do you know what round JP was picked in? He was picked in the 3rd round and James Harrison was undrafted. It's not about where you draft talent, it's about being able to identify it. Spending a high round pick on a player doesn't guarantee a blue chip player. I believe David Veikune can be a very good player in the NFL and we would be lucky to pick him up.

So thanks for your comments and we'll have to see how all this plays out on draft day!

Not going to say "I told you so"... :D

And it looks like Parcells and Ireland disagree with your opinion on Sean Smith as well.

Ok, so I was wrong about every other pick...just goes to show that anything can happen in the draft and nobody can say what will or won't happen.

Cheers, bro!
