Hello all! I've seen a lot of mock drafts, both on Finheaven and in the draft guides. Some of them I liked a lot and others left me wanting more. So I present to you my mock draft. This isn't exactly the way I see the Trifecta making the selections, but the way I'd like to see it unfold. Nothing earth-shattering, but enjoy and here's to a productive draft day later this month! WOO HOO!!!
st Round (25) - Sean Smith, CB, Utah - I really believe that Smith can be a top corner in this league with some time. He has the size to handle the bigger receivers, who absolutely KILLED us the last several years. If we don't pick Smith here, he won't last past the end of the 1st round or very early 2nd round. Second choice here would be Darius Butler, CB, UConn, another good player.
nd Round (44) - Ron Brace, NT, Boston College - Reminds me a bit of former Dolphin Larry Chester. Will never lead the Dolphins in sacks, but one of the best nose tackle prospects in the draft and and we need a true NT with Fergie getting long in the tooth and Soliai seemingly having his head in the clouds.
nd Round (56) - Sherrod Martin, CB, Troy - The Dolphins continue to reload the secondary with big corners. Martin has good size (6'0 and 197 lbs.) and has good speed and fluid hips. I would feel VERY good about the Dolphins secondary with the additions of Smith/Butler and Martin.
rd Round (87) -David Veikune, OLB/DE, Hawaii - With the 2nd tier of top Rush OLBs off the board (Connor Barwin, Larry English, Cody Brown, etc.), the Dolphins turn to the very versatile Veikune, who can line up all over the field. Has a good motor and can rush the passer. Would be a good understudy for Joey Porter.
th Round (108) - T.J. Lang, OT/G, Eastern Michigan - Here is a guy I think Tony Sporano might just fall in love with. He plays with a mean streak and has good upper body strength. Plus his versatility to play tackle or guard makes him at the very least a valuable backup.
th Round (161) - Edwin Williams, C, Maryland - Miami continues to add depth to the offensive line and adds a good prospect who can back up Jake Grove.
th Round (181) - Brandon Tate, WR, North Carolina - Here's where Miami takes a chance. I think Tate's serious injury could cause him to fall this far. Tate was the star of the Tarheels' WR corps before tearing both his acl and mcl against Notre Dame last season. If he checks out with Miami's medical staff, he could be a steal.
th Round (214) - Jorvorskie Lane, FB, Texas A&M - Although he was more of a battering ram in college, Lane has a lot to learn about being a FB in the pros. His conditioning and work ethic will have to improve if he is to make it in the NFL. But if he gets it together, he could emerge as a Pete Johnson-type bulldozer in goal line situations.
th Round (237) - Stephen Hodge, OLB, TCU - A project. Hodge played safety in college but led the nation in sacks by a defensive back. Could be another special teams demon while he learns the position.
