Here are my early rankings of the Top 75 Individual Defensive Players for the 2006 season. While scoring systems often vary in leagues that use IDPs, my rankings place an emphasis on tackles, sacks, interceptions and fumble recoveries. Points are usually awarded for TDs and safeties, and passes defensed can also be considered. I also strive to find a healthy balance between linemen, linebackers and defensive backs within the Top 75 for your drafting needs. These rankings will serve as a quality draft guide no matter how your commissioner decides to weigh the top categories, as they focus on the most important statistics generally used in IDP leagues.

Dude half those guys I've never heard of! I"m glad to see Zach and JT on there but wtf? :rolleyes2

Keith Bulluck? Not to say he's a bad player or anything, but best defensive player? I disagree there.

Vilma is a monster for sure, he had like 170 tackles last year.

Good list overall.

how can he have all of those rooks on the list who have yet to play a down in the NFL and not have Crowder up there somewhere :tantrum: ...

Donte whitner made it without playing 1 down in the NFL WTF is wrong with that?

also I think I take dwight freeney before charles tillman

typical ESPN analyst not having a clue

I thought he deserved to be up there as well...

No other team in the league has two players in the top ten. Imagine if we were to pick up Donnie Edwards (if he was released or traded), that would give us 3 in the top 9.

This is a list of how they score in fantasy football, not just their defensive ability. In my league we always use IDPs and this list looks pretty accurate. Although, in my league linebackers are almost always more valuable that linemen or dbs. Keith Bullock has been a consistent top 10 for a few years now.

:rolleyes2 @ putting some rookies on there. You don't rank a player who hasn't done anything in the NFL yet. Figured ESPN would do something like that.

It's about time someone said it PSmith. It's a fantasy production list, and depending on position and team, some guys have more production in areas that are fantasy relevant, but in some instances don't count that much towards overall "Best" defenders. I've never played with IDP's, and I don't think I ever want to. I already get more than enough flak from the wife for doing the leagues I do, imagine if I had to be researching and watching individual defenders too. No way. I'll pass, thank you.

holy crap Dwight Freeney is #57.....ummm i for one think hes a top 10 player
