Entering our 3rd decade of mediocrity!

Been a fan since 82. I missed the Golden Age of the Miami Dolphins but I'm well aware of what a Shula team looked and played like.

The Dolphins were great in the 70's. During the 80's and 90's they were an average at best team riding on the talent of Marino. Without Marino it's likely Shula would have followed in the footsteps of Tom Landry and been shown the door sooner than he was.

People question the current front office and coaching but how do the Dolphins with Dan Marino only make it to one Superbowl?

Because they had ZERO running game.

Johnny overthrow wasnt worth split pea soup till Terrell Davis showed up.

Each team has a 1 in 30 chance of winning the SB each year.......perspective

The Buffalo Bills, thats how...
Because they had ZERO running game.
I actually do know the reasons why.

But why are we making excuses for Shula and Marino while crucifying ever coach and Dolphins team since?

I'm not crucifying myself.

The current regime is just in over their heads...and aquisitions made on the O-Line have been atrocious

Your right. I actually think you're one of the more level-headed posters here.

The point I was trying to make is that for all of the complaints made today, you could have made similar complaints 25 years ago.

No running game, no defense. etc... Marino was able to keep the team relevant despite the HC and FO. They were never able to build a complete team around him.

Thanks for your support of my post.

Shula stunk in his last 11 years. Mercy on him.

His wife got sick and died of cancer.

The reality of the generation gap between coach Shula and players caught up to him.

Plus the quality of his assistance faltered as well!

But this post was not about Shula - really - but more about the incredibly pathetic state of this F-ing organization from a die-hard fan's perspective. I'm bleeding aqua here and I have been for roughly 15 to 20 years. I mean really Aaron Craver tearing up the chargers or Dave Wanstadts one playoff victory against the Colts 10 years ago are my last joyous moments? I mean THAT SUCKS and that is simply NOT OK!

The end of the Orange Bowl hurt us as well. As much as the quality of the experience for the fan was outdated the reality of a home field advantage vanished when this stadium went out of service.

Having the fans breathing down the player's neck has two effects: 1. It motivates the hell out of the home team to perform and also to be desperate and figure out how to perform when all the chips are down. 2. To emotionally deplete the opposing team.

The corporation of The Miami Dolphins have reaped the benefits of the Dolphins and Shula's legacy's allure. But the reality of their product has been simply awful for a very long time.

And if people want to argue that this is cyclical I would say fine but the down side of this cycle is now closing in on 20 years and counting!

You do realize that in Shula's last 4 years, he won 2 division titles, 3 playoff appearances, 2 playoff wins, a 41-28 record (0.594) including playoffs?

People would kill for that now.

Comparing Shula to the coach we have now!? Wow....that's just insane.

The only comparison between Shula's last ten or so years and the past ten years is no Superbowl wins. However, as has already been pointed out, Shula's team had only 1 losing season to go along with several division titles, several playoff appearances and wins, and a couple of AFC championship appearances. No, we couldn't ever get past the Bills, and neither could anybody else in the AFC.

On the other hand, during the last ten or so years, this team has had 2 division titles, 4 playoff games with only 1 win, and 5 (soon to be 6) losing seasons. During this span, the team went a franchise record six years in a row without making the playoffs, and will undoubtedly finish with a losing record for the third year in a row, something that's not happened here since the 1960's. It's also been over 10 seasons without a playoff victory, another franchise record.

So, I'll take the Shula years over these past ten years every time. We never won the Super Bowl during those years, but our seasons were also not over in October. And if Marino was the only thing keeping those Dolphins teams afloat, well . . . that's why they drafted him in the first round. If only the current regime had followed that path, then maybe they wouldn't be getting their butts canned at the end of the season as they so richly deserve.

No, he would have just been forced to get a running game. Those Dolphins were like the colts the last 10 years, when you have been blessed with a QB that could deliver like that you don't pay too much attention to who is running the ball because you don't need to.
Shula was too smart to lay back with a crappy QB that would get him fired.

Why do you think there are so many of us on here that want to suck for luck.

I'm confused.

Seems we've been ****ty for more so about 10 years give or take.

Really?

2000-11-5 Won AFCE
2001-11-5 2nd in AFCE
2003-10-6 2nd in AFCE
2008-11-5 Won AFCE

Such INCREDIBLY fickle fans. I honestly think too many of you are used to beating Madden each year to deal in reality.

Well over half the teams in the NFL would LOVE to have the level of success the Dolphins have had over the years, and that includes the last 10 years or so.

Dolfans that are hoping for a complete collapse are severely misguided.

This team is YOUR and My OWN WORST nightmare!

If we were a 4 and 12 team or a 1 and 15 team we'd all be much better off.

Sorry to say folks but we are gonna be 6 and 10 or 7 and 9.

We are now entering our 3rd decade of mediocrity.

Somewhere in the mid-nineties Wayne Huizenga tried to buy Shula and Marino a last hurrah! I think the team went 9 and 7.

Keith Byers, Keith Jackson, Terry Kirby, Mark Ingram and the crew set out to give the NFL's greatest QB and greatest coach of all time their much deserved Lombardi trophy.

A soft, and ineffective defense led to more heartbreak!

And now with this JERK Sporano who lacks creativity, inspiration, game-day coaching, talent evaluation skills, and overall is WAY OVER HIS HEAD - we fans are left with what will likely be another 7 and 9 debacle.

I argue that with the core of talent and a few better off season decisions, and the proper motivation we'd be a much better team. I have NEVER seen a guy get so excited about a field goal as our rutterless leader Sporano.

Somebody please wake me up I think I am having a nightmare.

Get ready to draft about spot 12 to 15. and start this cycle ALL over again.

The leadership and this team are starting to bust me (and I imagine other intense, die-hard fans OUT).

How much longer can we stay on board and be the laughing stock of the NFL?!

It's Sparano. He has been here for 3 years. Learn to spell his damn name already.
