Bills | Moulds asks for his release
Mon, 13 Mar 2006 16:25:54 -0800

Leo Roth, of the Democrat and Chronicle, reports Buffalo Bills WR Eric Moulds, who has been asked to take a substantial cut in pay, wants the team to release him from the final two years of his contract so he can sign with another team. "Let him go, it's only fair," Greg Johnson, Moulds' personal advisor, said today after talking with his client. "If they're not going to pay what we feel is fair-market value, he should be allowed to go somewhere where he could maybe get it." Moulds is scheduled to count $10.8 million against the salary cap and he's due to earn $7.1 million in cash (salary and bonus) for the upcoming season.

He has been saying this for a month now, I dont know what they are waiting for. Trade him or release him.

My prediction is, he will either end up in Houston, Green Bay, San Francisco, or Chicago.

I hope so... because it meant he didnt get what he wants.

From the desk of Mike Florio:

BILLS KEEPING MOULDS OFF OF THE MARKET

Surely frustrated as millions of dollars flow into the pockets of lesser players, Bills receiver Eric Moulds has asked to be traded or released.

"The Bills have put us in a position where we're at Option Z, and Option Z is to ask to be released," said Greg Johnson, according to The Associated Press. "It's a sad day. And we wish things could've worked out, but it's just not working out."

(Editor's note: What the heck is Option Z?)

Mould is scheduled to earn $7.1 million in 2006. He has refused multiple requests to restructure his deal.

So what haven't the Bills cut him?

Spite.

Oh, they'll never admit it. "Our intention remains to keep Eric as a part of our team," G.M. Marv Levy said on Monday.

But we know what's happening, Marv. We know. The idea is to hang onto Moulds' rights for now, while all of the other guys eat at the March big money trough. By the time the Bills cut him in July or August, and cut him they will, no one else will have enough cap space set aside to give him in 2006 what he could have gotten if on the open market right now.

**** happens after all the NFL is a business, I wonder if they will draft a WR now? Evans is good but Parrish isnt a number 2 WR, It ouldnt suprise me if Chad Jackson and Sinorce Moss will probably be gone in the first and I dont think the Bills will reach for them with thier first rounder, Santonio is another possiblity but I thought Buffalo was targeting a D Lineman in the first, I forgot what his name is.

Haloti Ngata. But it depends on what the rest of f/a brings. I've heard Michael Huff, Tamba Hali, Broderick Bunkley and Vernon Davis. We could trade down too, who knows.

Btw, if Moulds is cut, Davis would likely become the #2 behind Evans, with Parrish as #3. Sam Aiken may also push for a spot if we dont draft or pick up someone else.
