What do you guys think of Eric Norwood...compares to Merriman according to some.

Is he strong against the run? his numbers seem to have gone up every year and is consistently getting sacks year in and year out.

4 yr player as well and BP drafted Abraham from the same school as well ;)

he is however 6'1 at 252....thinking might be short for their "requirements?"

I have seen some highlights and he looks beastly quick and ferocious.

John Abraham is 6'4 though. Parcells likes his OLB's to have some size.

Later in Dallas the OLB's he brought in were "above" 6'3

Parcells courted Calvin Pace with a contract offer and he is 6'4

I think his 6'1 height takes Norwood out of the mix. I think they would make an exception at 6'2 if he is built like a tank at 260+, with really long arms, and crazy good.. But at 6'2 I think that is the absolute lowest height on their threshold for that position.

There is no way BP would bring in a LT who is only 6'4 or 6'5... He has to be above that. The same for OLB's having to be above 6'1.

I think it's safe to say you can scratch Norwood off your list.

I'd prefer Jerry Hughes or even wait until the 2nd round where there'll be whole heap of good LB's to chose from.

I have us taking him in the second round on my draft. He's is a beast of a LB

2nd Round. A little on the short side but I believe he could transition well to ILB and provide some much needed playmaking ability in there and some speed.

He's definitely an ILB, not OLB. Hes a tackling machine, for certain.

we have 3 linebackers on the team now that are" 6-2" - 245-250 and they don't have long arms. but i do think your righ about norwood he is on the shorter side.

If you re-read my post, I was talking about Parcells history for OLB's.. I mentioned "OLB" numerous times in the post. You are talking about some ILB's, that's a totally different position.

The OP compared Norwood to Shawne Merriman, who is a 6'4 OLB.. The OP also mentioned John Abraham, who was a 6'4 OLB.. Norwood is 6'1, some places I have seen him listed as 6'0.

The Dolphins OLB's are-

Charlie Anderson - 6'4
Jason Taylor - 6'6
Quentin Moses - 6'5
Cam Wake - 6'3
Joey Porter - 6'3
Matt Roth was 6'4 when he was released.

No OLB is 6'2 or shorter on the Dolphins.

Now if you are talking about ILB, that's a different story. But I answered to the OP as he named current and former OLB's.

Norwood won't go in the first round. I'd actually rather see him switch to ILB at the next level anyway. He needs to get better in coverage, but I think he's solid enough against the run and from the tape I've seen on him he looks like he could be a pretty good pass rusher from the inside. Definitely a disruptor.

I am from SC and watched this guy play. I was coming on here to post about him and you beat me to it. I think we can pick him up in the third round, i think he will slip that far. The guy is CONSISTENTLY around the ball, a playmaker. I would enjoy seeing what this regime could do with him. Not sure if he projects as a ILB or OLB. If you watched the game****s this year you could not have NOT seen him, he is where the ball is usually.

Give me Iowa's A.J Epps - 6'4'' 244lbs, or if height is no issue and you want the second coming of Zach Thomas pickup Iowa ILB Pat Angerer (6'0'' 235lbs) in a mid to late round pick.

...and I'm NOT an Iowa fan!...lol.

First team AP All-American considered taking his chances in the NFL, but he elected to return for his senior season - and what a season it has been. Named a midseason first-team All-American by Phil Steele, Sports Illustrated and Sporting News, one of five finalists for the Butkus Award, one of 12 semifinalists for the Lombardi Award, one of 16 semifinalists for the Bednarik Award and one of eight semifinalists for the Lott Trophy, Norwood is the SEC’s active leader in both sacks and tackles for loss. A two-time first-team all-SEC pick, Norwood holds the school record with 29.0 career sacks; he passed Game**** standout Andrew Provence in the win over Ole Miss on Sept. 24 with his 27th career sack. He also has 54.5 tackles for loss, which gives him the all-time lead in that category at South Carolina. He even added an interception return for a touchdown in the game at Georgia on Sept. 12, which prompted ESPN’s Lou Holtz - former Game**** head coach - to call Norwood “the best defensive player in the country.” It was his third career touchdown. • The senior from Acworth, Ga., has played in all 50 games over the past three seasons and has made 38 consecutive starts. He has recorded 245 tackles over his three-plus seasons and was named the Harris Pastides Scholar Athlete Award winner for football at the spring game in April. Last season, Norwood earned All-SEC accolades from the Associated Press, the league’s coaches and Phil Steele’s College Football, and second-team honors from Rivals.com as a junior. All this was after making the conversion from defensive end to linebacker - and he still finished second on the team with 75 tackles.
Norwood is tied for third in the SEC with seven sacks this season. He is tied for eighth in the league with 11.5 total tackles for loss. He also leads the team with two interceptions, has recovered a fumble, forced a fumble and leads the team with 11 quarterback hurries.
• A regular on special teams, Norwood has blocked three kicks this season.

right now Norwood has it all in terms of Miami picking him up.
Never injured, consistently playing, consistently tackling, causing sacks, amazing motor, and I think has a very good size for being an ILB for us in a 3-4.

I wouldn't mind him at all and I wouldn' tbe surprised ifMiami went wiht a guy like this to play ILB instead of McClain or Spikes.

You wanna waste that speed off the line Norwood has and put him at ILB?

I dont get it?
