Eric Steinbach signs one year deal with fins

how old is steinbach??? 30 plus??? seems like he played for a good while...

now that's interesting...i may be mistaken but didn't he miss all of last season??? did he retire???

He had back surgery and worse placed on IR last August by the Browns. They cut him in March.

32

i wouldn't pencil him in a starter from jump...that would be nice if he's close to what he used to be but i find it hard to believe thats gonna be the case...still i like us taking the chance...i wonder if he can play left guard and move incog where he should be on the right side...

32 Not too old, If his back holds up, it would be a nice upgrade to our OL.

i love the addition ! it gives our line a more solid look & needed depth:

LT- Jake Long
LG- Richie Incognito
C- Mike Pouncey
RG- Eric Steinbach
RT- Lyndon Murtha

and our top back-ups would be Nate Garner & Jonathan Martin (I think he will not be strong enough to man the starting RT spot this year, & Murtha will have a good showing in preseason)... I'm excited to see how this line works IF everyone stays healthy. GO FINS !! :woot:

Don't know if this has been mentioned already but the thing to pay attention to on this is the TIMING. The players checked in this morning for weigh-ins and Eric Steinbach was signed by the afternoon.

It's all guesswork of course, but I think someone blew their weigh-in, and my money would be on John Jerry. I'm guessing the last time they had him in they asked him to lose a significant amount of weight, and they checked him in this morning and he didn't.

I assume they went with the guy they thought was more healthy. However if Steinbach was their choice, probably means Scott is pretty messed up health wise. If Eric's back is not a problem, and that is a MAJOR IF, he is easily going to be the starting RG.

Did he ever play RG? I thought he only played LG in the NFL?

Hopefully it won't be like Jonathan Martin trying to adjust from LT to RT with different techniques and footwork....

Yeah, I mentioned that on the first page almost word for word. To me it sounds like Jerry failed either his physical or the conditioning test.

Steinbach is awful. Questionable signing.

For whatever it's worth, and it may not be much, but Pro Football Focus' graders absolutely hated Steinbach in 2009 and 2010.

However, they also gave Artis Hicks a bad grade in 2010 when he was playing Guard for Washington, and I personally re-watched his games to verify, and I came out totally disagreeing with their grades.

To me Steinbach is now the backup to Artis Hicks...instead of John Jerry, who may not make the roster.

So now both he and Garrard are our guys who sat out last year with back issues. Very risky move, but if Jerry isn't the man, we have to do something.

If he has only played LG his whole career, why not put him there and let Incognito play RG, where we all assume he is a better fit?

Why would they sign him, if it s major IF. Wouldn't they have him get a physical and make sure he is cleared?
