Is anyone seriously considering Ernie Sims for our 16th pick? Now with the Dolphins signing Deke Cooper, S, from Jacksonville we have number of safeties vying for the two starting spots. Renaldo Hill (former Arizona safety), Yeremiah Bell, Travares Tillman and Cooper along with a mid-round selection thrown in there (Greg Blue, Georgia, hopefully) will be completely servicable and should open us up to being to address other needs in the 1st round.

My first option would be to take Chad Jackson from Florida but seeing as the Broncos have one pick higher than us and they have been said to be interesting in Jackson, i find it highly unlikely he will drop to us. Because of this i find it very intriguing to consider Ernie Sims of Florida State should we not sign LaVar Arrington (i dont know if we can afford him). With an aging Zach Thomas, Channing Crowder, and a mediocre Donnie Spragan and Sedrick Hodge i think it is not only reasonable to select Sims but is what we should do. Sims is a monster and reminds me of a LaVar Arrington (ironic we are trying to sign him). He follows a long line of tradition of FSU LB's and would contribute and could (should) start immediately.

Thoughts anyone???

Please post in the draft forum.

Oh, and I don't really like him too much. He produces but he overpursues and falls for play action. Besides, he went to FSU....

And a problem with concussions, not good for a player that should be close to leading the team in tackles.

Miami needs a LB the size of Carpenter, not Sims

A wise man once said, "Size matters not." And its true. Hes an inch taller than Zach Thomas and two inches shorter than Channing Crowder and somehow Thomas is considered "too short" and Crowder is "prototypical size". I dont understand the big deal about 2 or 3 inches. If you put your mind outside the box and have actually played football before, 2 or 3 inches doesnt matter. It could be compensated for with a high vertical. And besides LB's dont stand straight up when they play anyway, they get down into a crouched stance and then they are all about the same size. To not give someone a second look because of height, well...thats foolish.

Actually, a muppet said that. Is a muppet your idea of a wise man?

Sims isn't just almost 3 and a half inches shorter than Carpenter -- he's also 25 pounds lighter. Don't tell me weight matters not.

Obviously some of you guys have never seen Ernie play, on more than one occasion FSU players have said that Ernie Sims is the hardest hitter on the Seminole football team and he is always in the back field making plays. The guy just knows how to play football plain and simple. Plus with his speed if he ever does bite on play action (which players do from time to time) he has the recovery speed to make up for it.

hahahahaha first of all, a muppet?? are u calling yoda a muppet? dude u are way off.

second of all, u are right, weight does matter, but it is a double-edged sword. carpenter may be 25 pds stronger, but he is 25 pounds slower. ive seen carpenter and hes got a good motor and can tackle well but he is nowhere close to as fast sims is. sims is explosive and nasty, carpentar is technically sound and never quits but he is not as naturally athletic as sims. so, in conclusion i find it humorous that the 6'0'' guy who weighs 25 pds less than carpenter is reffered to as one of the hardest hitters in the nation and carpenter is not...even with his extra 25 pounds

Aside from there being a draft forum, I would love to take him with the 16th pick. However, I think the best thing would be to move down and pick up an extra pick or two.
