ESPN Article: Ranking 32 NFL QBs by Tier (Need ESPN Insider Help)

Hi everyone, saw this article on ESPN. If anyone has ESPN insider I would be very appreciative to see what was said about Tannehill. Thanks in advance.

http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/stor...-insiders-rank-32-starting-quarterbacks-tiers

i saw it...they ranked him 23rd...one pro personnel director put him in tier 2 ie top 15 a dc said they didn't fear him but he needs to be protected better

one pro personnel director said he expects him to jump up into tier 2 under the new offense and tempo

the 32nd ranked qb geno smith

Man, I hope RT can break out this year. Maybe some bad decisions and a predictable offense held him back the last 2 years. I'd like nothing more than to see him really open some eyes this year. I would like to see the same chemistry he has with Hartline with Landry as well. RT to MW is still a huge question mark until we see it.

Sounds about right. Pretty much exactly what Ive been saying for a while.

they got #1 right. 23 is a good spot for Ryan. geno played like #32 most of last year but he ended strong so I would put him around 25-28 but who really cares? these guys can change that in a heartbeat by playing well this season.

they ranked matt ryan i think #10 but they tore into him pretty good for not getting over the hump and not being able to overcome things ie poor oline play injuries etc given his tenure

they have tannehill too low but a couple pro personnel directors see at least tier two level guy so whatev...i stand by my take

it's too late not to stand by your take. Maybe you will be right? we'll see.

any good Brady vs. Manning quotes?

I gave Ryan a tier 3 ranking in my mind before seeing how he had been assessed. I think that it's a fair rating. He needs to be making his move to be rated a tier 2 QB this year.
Interesting that Andrew Luck was given a tier 1 ranking. If you look at their performances last year, Tannehill actually threw for more yards than Luck. I like Luck but it seems that lots of people are drinking the koolaid. Also interesting that Tom Brady still commands a tier 1 ranking. He is perhaps in consideration as the greatest of all time but he actually finished 20th in pass completion percentage last season and had his lowest yardage and TDs since 2006.

they make a very valid point that brady doesnt have any win options on the outside...he's got slot wrs and a tight end...can't believe the pats didn't do anythng about it this offseason

they said how unlike brady manning and rodgers both have win options on the outside to rely on...basically said brady gets the most out of what he's given to work with and i'd have to agree with that

still think bradys showing signs of falloff though...he wouldn't miss as much as he does now when he was in his prime...but it's not a falling off a cliff thing

Thanks. Brady is definitely slipping a bit but he's still great. soon it will be over for the rest of us as far as being victimized by Brady. I appreciate him as a football fan, I hate him as a Jet fan(same way I felt about Marino- I just wish one of these decades we will get a QB other teams fear).

Here is what was posted in the article:

23. Ryan Tannehill, Miami Dolphins (3.32 average rating)

A pro personnel director put Tannehill in the second tier, but a defensive coordinator whose team faced the Dolphins was not convinced.

Either way, Tannehill needs better blocking. "To me, he is a manager of the game, a guy where if everything is right, he is OK," the defensive coordinator said. "We didn't fear him. I don't think he has the strongest arm, the best release. When you ask me about guys, I think about how I have to game plan against them. Am I afraid of them?"

One pro personnel evaluator placed Tannehill in the second tier, predicting good things for the third-year pro behind an upgraded line and within an uptempo offense.

I agree with some of the NFL.com article about the ESPN.com article (although I think Luck is a bit overrated. Seems like they are projecting future greatness):

» Andrew Luck ranked as the fifth and final signal-caller to crack the top tier. "He can put it on his back as a younger player, where some of these other guys had good help running the ball like Ben (Roethlisberger) or Matt (Ryan) or Russell (Wilson) or Joe (Flacco)," a defensive coordinator said. "They have had people you could hand it to. They say you can win with a young QB when you have a top-10 defense and a top-10 running game. Luck hasn't had either."

"I love Russell Wilson," one GM said. "I like him for the intangibles, which (Colin) Kaepernick has not displayed. I have Wilson as a three and think he might ascend to a two. I don't think he will ever be a one. Kaepernick has a chance to be a one, but he also has a chance to be a three or a four."

» Cam Newton was surprisingly graded in Tier 3, mainly due to his "inconsistent" play, according to a head coach.

I think the bolded comments about Wilson, Kaepernick, and Newton were spot on, although IMO, Kaepernick will never be a one.

Last year was the last year I will ever say Brady is falling off. He went into the year without his 3rd down guy, one all pro TE in jail with the other on the shelf and only had a bunch of dudes at WR and all he did was win that's how I judge a QB, does he make the plays needed to win the game and Tom did thst....they should have been 1-5 at one point last year instead they were 5-1 smdh......

RT is ranked were he should hopefully he takes the next step and gets in the top 15
