And then we have Chad Henne and the Dolphins at 0-3. Would the No. 1 overall pick be enough to convince former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher to make his new home in South Florida? As good as Andrew Luck is, his coaches think he can get better.
"Yes," Harbaugh said, "Andrew would tell you the same thing. You're either continuing to get better, or you're getting worse. He's the guy who understands that. He has the humility and the work ethic to make it happen."
Said Allen, his high school coach in Houston: "Actually, I think he'll get much better. He was never surrounded by truly talented players here. Stanford increased the level around him, but he's never been in a situation with big-time receivers to throw to. I'm biased, but I think he'll excel at the next level."

uggh...Im on the SFL wagon,but it would be nice to log on,and see a different topic being dicussed....as crazy as it sounds(no pun intended OP)
 
I think it would be huge to have that first pick to convince him to come here. What better way then to use that pick on him and say to the fans: THIS IS WHAT THIS TEAMS BEEN MISSING AND WE JUST ADDRESSED IT!
 
Ben was the third QB taken in that draft (#11). He wasn't "Big name guy" like Manning was that year. Ben came from Miami (ohio) and wasn't well known. Pretty much everyone thought he was a reach at the time. You may have a point if you want to say he never had the draft position but it would be a hard argument to defend over 15 years of coaching.

This is his QB draft history in 15 years:

1993: 8th Rd Alex Van Pelt
1994: 6th Rd Jim Miller
1995: 2nd Rd Kordell Stewart
2000: 5th RD Tee Martin
2003 5th RD Brian St. Pierre
2004 1st (11th overall) Ben Roethlisberger
2006 5th RD Omar Jacobs

Not quite the guy who puts emphasis on a QB I would say. Matter of fact for 15 years he was pretty crappy at drafting a quarterback. I'm not sure you or I could have a worse draft history than that.
 
What's the fascination with Cowher? Dude's going to be JJ v2.0. More 3 yards and a cloud of dust offense!

When I think of the Steelers under Cowher, the word that comes to my mind immediately is "underachievers". Who can forget the countless choke jobs in the playoffs? Yeah, he beat the Seahawks, but that game probably should have gone the other way. They were going to kick Denver's *** in 1997, they got whipped. They got beaten by Drew Bledsoe in 2001.

I just don't get the fascination with the guy.

I think people like his "I'm going to punch you in the face if you dont do what I say" attitude.

I am leaning more towards Gruden, but that's me. He rebuilt the Raiders and got the Bucs to the SB and won with Brad Johnson at QB. Granted TB had a great defense but we might not even have to get rid of Henne is Gruden comes here and fixes him some. *Dont have a mental spasm + heart attack SFL fans, I am not advocating that Henne should stay or that he doesnt have issues, just saying *IF* he signs a friendly contract and Gruden keeps him, which I dont think he will, but you never know, Gruden will either make him all he can be or dump his butt to the curb.

EDIT: For the record though I'd be freaking ecstatic at getting either coach, I think they are both awesome, I just think Gruden would be my personal choice, maybe because when I lived in Tampa a couple of years I saw him so much and the teams were decent so his attitude grew on me I dont know.
 
With the 1st pick of the 2012 draft .....

Cowher would draft a linebacker.

Gruden would trade down thinking HE could make any QB great.

Fisher would demand either he or the 1st round QB must go after a few games.

Ireland who will be long gone would let the clock run out and forfeit the pick.

Good Luck getting Luck. Don't see it.

You're kidding, right? The guy was the 11th overall pick.

Roethlisberger wasn't a "big name" only in the same way that Jay Cutler wasn't a "big name", meaning that people who don't follow the draft or know what they're talking about didn't know who he was.

If he hadn't been in the same draft class as Eli Manning and Philip Rivers, Big Ben would have been taken even higher than #11.

I would kill for Miami to be choking in the playoffs consistently now. IDK why you just told that bold faced lie.
