The Miami Dolphins were hurting at receiver last week. Starters Jarvis Landry (shoulder) and Kenny Stills (calf) both missed significant practice time leading into Sunday’s win over the San Diego Chargers because of injuries.

Miami needed an X-factor to step up offensively and got one in second-year wide receiver DeVante Parker. The former first-round pick led the Dolphins with 103 receiving yards on five receptions. Parker had the longest gain of the day for Miami with a 56-yard reception in the second half.

“That was big for us, because we needed it bad,” Dolphins head coach Adam Gase said. “The other two guys were banged up. They gave us everything they had. Jarvis played well, and Kenny made some big plays.

"But just having [No.] 11 out there being able to go, you could just feel it during the week that he was different than what he had been. So getting him out there and knowing he was going to make some big plays makes life a lot easier.”

Parker also made another long catch that was called back due to a penalty.

The Dolphins had high expectations for Parker entering Year 2, but a nagging hamstring injury has slowed him since training camp. He missed the regular-season opener and had his first 100-yard game in Week 2 against the New England Patriots. Other than that, he has been mostly quiet.

This was the week DeVante Parker earned Ryan Tannehill’s trust.

This very important fact, courtesy of Ryan Tannehill.

Parker had five catches for 103 yards Sunday, none more important than a 56-yarder down the left sideline with Miami trailing by three points and only four minutes to play.

But it was what Parker showed Tannehill in practice this week that allowed it to happen.

“By far, this was his best week of practice,” Tannehill said after the game. “He ran hard in practice. He got open in practice. That built my confidence in him.”

When told of Tannehill’s comments in the locker room after the game, Parker flashed a bright smile.

“That’s big,” Parker said. “If it’s 1-on-1 coverage, he has trust in you to throw it. If he throws it, you make the play. Or bat it down if you can’t it.”

Parker has battled hamstring injuries all season.

“It’s been really tough,” he said. “It may be one leg and then it switches to the other leg so it’s really tough. Just stay on it.”

Parker had 106 yards receiving in Week 2 at New England, but has topped 51 yards only once in the six games since. The worst was last week against the Jets, when Parker posted only two catches for eight yards.

Someone PLEASE get him a Nutritionist & Life Coach...

He looked pretty fast on the bomb he caught....got tripped up with a shoe string tackle....I thought he was going to take that one to the house.

He has to get over these hamstring issues to be an impact as Jay's 200 yard days may be over.....teams are stacking and attacking the running lanes now.

Having 3 WR that c
all can make plays is awesome but we need to get the run game going again on sunday. Everything starts right there. You can do so much more when the running game is working. That can make us one of the best offenses in the NFL.

Ozzy rules!!

This reminds me of Shaq, 2 years in a row now, it seems like Parker is playing his way into shape. Need him to get serious about being a professional athlete, at some point his natural gifts won't be enough. Need a good offseason program this year. I'm sure Gase is on it.

Parker is legit. Like I said before the SD game, we need to make a point to get him involved early. We did and he had a big game. Right now he needs to build his confidence, after he realizes what he can do to anyone. He has arrived

I hope he continues to play like he did Sunday for the rest of the season.

I'd really like to see that play again, that got called back. Not sure I ever took a second look at it but that seemed like an awesome pitch and catch. I have the game recorded so I'll definitely take a look at it again when I get home. If anyone has a GIF of it that would be stellar.

He showed a burst after catching the bomb that was impressive. AS others have stated, his build and stride usually mean speed not quicks.

I'd like to see him more of a post up receiver in the red zone though. Curls where he can shield the Db with his body; Tannehill can put it up high for him to use his length rather than the route in the end zone Sunday. You can argue for PI there, of course.

We really need a money in the red zone receiver and I had high hope that Parker would be that guy.

double move on the deep ball set up by all those stop routes prior

stutter and go really

showed sweet burst after the catch too
